For me, Lent's not so much about the giving up as it is about the doing extra. Giving more to the poor and needy. I think Jesus would want that more than he would want me to go without coffee or something.

Right, I think the idea behind the givng up for Lent was to give up something that would be difficult to abstain from... like coffee, perhaps (if you drink it).

I'm not currently giving up anything, but I have a couple times before in past years.

I actually really like your point of view. I always thought lent was stupid, as needless sacrifice is a waste. So I never gave anything up. I really like your idea. If I had something to give I would lol.
