My first time I was checking out this old warehouse with some friends and it happened to be full of mattresses, chairs, tables, and boxes upon boxes of plastic cups, plates, and those cardboard hotdog holders. So, a friend of mine decided that since there were mattresses everywhere, he would jump around on them and when he finally dismounted, he landed right on a dead, decaying cat.

I've never seen anyone throw up so much in my entire life.

To those who've posted pictures that they'd taken of dead animals, do what you will, but personally, I find such photos to not only be in poor taste, but incredibly disrespectful.

It's disrespectful to the animals. You may call me a sentimentalist, which I am, but I feel that deceased animals should receive the same level of respect that deceased humans do. The only time that I MIGHT make an exception to my personal "no photography of deceased animals and humans" policy is if they're historically significant, and even then, it'd be case-by-case.

I don't really get what has happened to our culture and death, it has become taboo. You say you have a policy of no photos of the deceased? Did you that untill the 20's (I belive, it may have been earlier) that casket photos were the norm. The family would crowd around gramps propped up casket and get one last photo. What about police photos documenting crime scenes? Not to be done? Weegee, do you find his work disrespectful? personally I don't have a problem with any of it, but if you do, voicing you opinion in a thread about such things probably isn't the smartest thing.

Crime scene photography is a different creature, so to speak. Crime scene photos are taken to help document crime scenes and solve crimes, not because the photographers think that said photos are cool, at least not if they're consummate professionals. If photos of deceased humans and/or animals are taken in a professional capacity, then I don't have an issue with it, most of the time. Photos taken solely for shock value are the exception. Let's just say that I have a certain reverence for the dead, and feel that photographers should do their best to avoid unnecessarily exploiting them.

I've been seeing a wealth of roadkill cats lately (I don't photograph 'em though, just move them out of the road so they won't get squished), but nothing disgusting/funny/weird/etc while exploring, except for this door in the scales house of an old freight depot (which I guess qualifies as funny?), plus the underwear in front of it:

Yeah dunno about the duck, picked so clean but so preserved at the same time. Found it on a roof so it wasn't ants or bugs that high up.

That pawn shop is known for selling bizzare things.... and some of those bizarre things sell for thousands of dollars. I just saw an article on it yesterday. As far as posting pics of dead animals go.... this IS the thread where you are supposed to post about disgusting things, and last time I checked, dead animals were pretty damned gross. If it offends you, don't look at them.

What is that thing anyway?

It looks like a large, decomposed attack dog, but because of it's odd shape someone's labeled the picture 'chupacabra' which I believe means death dog or something in Spanish. A mythical creature which Mexican farmers blame for livestock deaths.
