Second Floor Window

I am planning on exploring this old ice cream place but its very close to several houses and the only plausible way in is through a broken window on the second floor from the alley.I would like some ideas how to get up there. Its about 10-15 feet up. Bringing our own ladder is out of the question because we will be riding mountain bikes. there isnt much debris in the area to get on. Is grapelling possible?

Build a ladder onsite. Get a lift from your bikes. Find a dumpter to stand on. Find some skids to use as ladders. Give each other boosts and try to find a door from the inside to let the others in. If you really want to risk grappling, as it's not the safest thing to do, go ahead but be prepared to fall.

I'll always recommend a hook.. But it goes without saying when using one don't be a moron.. make sure you have a solid anchor then as soon as the first person gets up unhook and attach the rope on something safer even if the hook is in a good spot..
It 'should' be a good connection if you hook the windowsill, but always test the line..

How Many storys up is the roof...now this may sound dumb..if you can get on the roof, but i would rather go over the side of a building with a rope , then try to climb up.

Second floor is childs play, there are so many ways to do it.

Sounds like there will be two or more of you ?

If that's the case you could probably have one or two of you hold a bike up against the wall while one person uses it as a makeshift ladder. Or one or two people boost one person up. Once the one person is up, all you need is a rope to to tie off (have extra length, because you may need to tie it around something wide, you never know what will be around).

That kind of plan allows the last person coming up to put the bikes somewhere less conspicuous before goin in as well... pull the rope inside. Chances are you can probably exit through a door that locks behind you when you leave...

If the broken window doesn't have broken glass, and its closer to the 10 side of 10-15, than you have one person lean against the wall, and another climb them (step on interlinked fingers than shoulders) to get in, then lean out the window. You can then have the other person, grab their hand (praps with a short jump) and pull him in cooperatively.
This works better with 3 people, cause then you can have two guys help one guy up, and two guys help one guy in.

Bah.. knots and loops are stoopid
if you do that you can't use ascenders or descenders.. (use a Prusiks knot if you don't have or want to buy ascenders) but the rope climbing thing we made goes over migshift ways..

When all else fails, or you cant climb rope, just bust a lower window or crowbar something open....that usually works

Total overkill to get into a second floor window, you're talking about probably 10-12 feet...

My grapple's rope had the ugliest knots and loops in it... worked like a charm.

Not saying it's not overkill I am sayin it'd work, if you can boost to the window then that'd be easier.. But for whatever the reason boosting not being able to work then the hook prevails..
And I never said a rope full of knots and tangles won't work, but in my personal opinion I think that you lose ALOT of versatility and use of a rope when you make it into some retarded ladder... Not to mention that it really don't make it that much easier, if you want to make it into a ladder just use a ladder:

What versatility did I lose on my grappling hook rope ?
My purpose is to use it to climb 2nd or 3rd story heights.
It worked.

No other use for my grappling hook/rope.

for one you loose like half your rope in knots, and rope isn't cheap (at least climbing rope)
