| | | I need some better pants for UE, does anyone have any suggestions? I like the strength and feel of denim, but want something warmer and quieter (as in "doesn't swish around so"). Also, anyone know how to make my ski cap a bit darker? It's almost neon.

| | | last time i was out i didn't have any problems with my jeans making noise. and any noise that did make probably wasn't enough to really attract any attention as for the hat. just dye it black

| | | Blue90 - As for warmth just go for some long johns. No matter what you wear there is going to be some swishing sound. Just layer and you should be ok. Jeans are the best bang for your buck unless you want to go for some stealth ninja suit. Your shoes probably make more low level audible tones then the pants moving. P.S. dont dye shit black, it will actually make you more visible at night, and sticks out during the day.

| | | For the cap get a good marker (oil based) or even a sharpie and spend awhile going over it (my brown leather boots are covered in marker and it lasts like half a year before fading), that or make a cover for it. As for pants personally I don't like layering up pants (even though it's a good idea) I just wear thick camo pants that are 50% cotton 50% nylon, they're warm enough for me.

| | | as for pants I just use Proper BDUs.. and i have been meaning to pickup a set of underarmour As for BDUs if you get rip-stop they will last longer because if they get a hole it will stop it from spreading, but the nonripstop seem to be warmer

| | | The ripstop BDUs are the summer weight so not as warm...but that's easily remedied with long johns. And yeah. Time for a new hat.

| | | For sturdy material I have found BDUs to be quite good. They're hard to find to fit a 25" waist and 34" inseam but that probably isn't going to be a problem for you. I will second the caution against black clothing, navy blue or dark brown is just as stealthy and less questionable should somebody question you while skulking about at night. As for the hat, it's probably easier to buy a new one than modify the existing one. I'm a huge fan of Winners. I've found tons to great UE gear (especially steady leather gloves and great tops) there.

| | | Underarmor is best for summer climates and I wouldnt suggest it for winter use. Also there is a better shirt out called Undergear by 5.11 tactical. different design helps mold to the body properly, the underarm is made of a more porus material to help get rid of armpit sweat, and the seams no longer give you chaffing. By the way ask anyone in the military, "Ripstop, isnt!" Yes thats a whole sentence. The winter weights are best for all around use, but have some detracting factors. They are usually loose, made with a cotton base so when they get wet, you stay wet. There is however something you might want to look into. The military has winter weather overalls. Goes under your clothes and will keep your legs nice and toasty, plus it should keep moisture off your skin and help protect from water getting in to bad. I saw a pair last month but they were to big. Also 5.11 makes some GREAT pants. They are rugged as hell, lots of pockets, come in tons of colors, but they can be pricey. 30ish dollars. Undergear and the pants can be found for good prices 12ish for the shirt and 25-30 for the pants if you look.

At far as visual stealth black is actually VERY bad since it doesn't match much of anything in nature, for night you would want a navy blue, or maybe Subdued Urban to match in with your surroundings since everything turns shades of blue in moonlight, and for day OD, Camo, black, or brown would be fine As for Urban Camo you could get tan (Khaki), OD or Brown would work nicely if you don't want to be dressed in black or Camo.. Personally I would stick to darker colors like OD, Black, Navy or Brown because you will likely get stranger looks all dirty as hell then in all black, since khaki would show your 'dirtyness' a lil more..

| | | I'll second, or third the OD (Olive Drab). They're comfy, and yeah, you could look like a freak out in public, but hey, I'm oneof those freaks that wears his out. They're mine now, and I don't have to give them back.

| | | Hey, thanks guys, I think i'll stick to my outfit- from what you said, it sounds about right- Head- Royal blue (dark, but still royal) ski cap (and yeah, I think i'll dye it- just a little, so it's still blue) Torso- short sleeve t-shirt, long sleeve black t-shirt (with cool blue dragon logo) dark blue and weathered denim jacket over those Legs- flannel pajama bottoms and dark cargo blue jeans Hands- My neighbor usually provides me with these pretty good brown ones, but i need to get some of my own... Feet- crap, my shoes are white, but i'll get some others, like some of my dad's dark brown leather ones Yeah, and my dad's a hunter, so if i was doing some exploration in a forest-type area, do you think camo might be a good idea? (besides the fact that it would look reeeeaaaly suspicious) Thanks again

For the shoes use some black leather dye.. Well to tell you the truth the only pants I own are BDUs, I have mostly Black and OD, then random camos, Urban, Subdued Urban, and Normal forrest Camo.. I really don't find many of those extremely suspicious and if you act like your not doing anything wrong then normally people won't assume you are doing anything.. But if yer decked out in camo and acting shady then people will look twice But for camo where you don't want to stand out much I would go with OD.. it's not too odd looking and it should blend in better then jeans in the woods But then again if your out in the sticks I would just wear camo just because the odds of running into someone and it just seems right..

| | | Id watch out wearing camo in the woods during open season. maybe take a dayglow hat that you wear until you need to dissappear or summwhat. Its happened, it will happen again.
