Abandoned quarry mine. Large pictures.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on these boards, so if I am doing something wrong or posting something that is not considered UE, and/ or is inappropriate, please let know.

Anyways, there is an abandoned limestone quarry mine in the town of cool, on the outskirts of auburn california - where me and my friends grew up. We've been visiting this mine for a few years now, which was opened in the late 1800's, and was operational for many, many years afterwards. Just this last weekend, we bought down a camera and a tripod in an attempt to get some open-shutter pictures.

After looking at the beautiful pictures posted here, I am sorry that these pictures aren't more artful - but our only objective was to clearly illustrate the sheer size of the place, and the terribly small size of the entrance.

(CLICK TO OPEN) Click to see the pics

All in all, it was disappointing to see how much garbage was down there - when we had gone there a few years ago, there was garbage - but this time it was obvious someone had a rager down there, with fireworks and all.

Thats right, Fireworks. Who in their right mind brings explosive incendiary devices to an abandoned, crumbling, turn of the century limestone quarry? Seriously?

Anyways, thats my thread - hope you like it.

wow, those pictures are amazing. Looks like a cool place. Have you ever considered taking some SCUBA gear down there? I can only imagine the stuff that might be found at the bottom of those lakes (machinery? the inevitable recipient of a not so joking "lime pit" joke?)...

Cool stuff.

It might just be me, but I do not see any photo's, or a link to photo's. Am I missing something?

That is just such a cool place, the lake is awesome, it needs to be turned into an underground resort, no? N.

Apparently, in the 50's and 60's, it wasn't far from that - my moms horseshoe-er remembers going to dances in there when he was a little kid. Odd.

Your doubts about the artfulness of your photos are unfounded; sometimes the art is in the place, and that's just what you have pictures of. They're great. They really convey the entire feeling of "holy ****..." that you get when you walk into someplace really huge or otherwise awe-inspiring. That feeling's the thing I love most about exploring. You're pretty handsome, too (from a straight male's perspective).

Those are some awesome shots you managed to capture there! Thanks for sharing. The shear size of the place is awe inspiring.

Thanks for the compliments, but cody is actually the one who took the pictures. I believe he's a member here. All i did was look stupid in front of the camera, then post them online .

We've been on some absurd missions, one of an abandoned nuclear missile silo - me or cody might post that soon.

Great location, and some excellent photos. Nice start for posting on the board!

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

WOW.. As far as I can tell, the only crime you've committed in posting this is your choice of pants; looks like my old "toughskins" from 1977.

But great pics, and ballsy too; most of these jerks here, exploring is nothing more than walking in , and walking around.
You guys had to get down and dirty, and I'm guessing the adrenaline was pumping a bit too.

Oh, and as far as not being artistic? To hell with the art boys, anyone can take a picture of rust, but can just anyone take a picture of some bearded dude with two heads?

Great job, keep it coming
And get a real pair of pants.

Man, you have no idea how much i've had to defend those pants. I posted this on another forum, and i had to explain myself in about 10 separate posts.

As you can see, it gets a bit dirty crawling into a place like this, and my pants could have been ruined. SO, instead of wearing some nice jeans into the place, i just pulled out my old polyester pants - cause i dont care if they get destroyed or not. Make sense?

The internet hates my pants.

ROFLOL! There's NOTHING wrong with wearing ugly 70's pants to go crawling into an old mine. NOTHING!

Wow, that's an awesome place! Really big.. I like best the picture that shows the people at the distance and shows the size of the place.

Ursa - I think for what you were trying to do you did great. Those pictures did display the size and a taste of the beauty of that mine. I would love to see some higher quality pictures come out of there eventually and if you do please send me a link to your gallery or website.

the pictures may not be of the absolute best quality but i could still see the sheer size of the place and did enjoy looking at them, and i think people are over reacting a little bit in the past few posts.

Let's keep this thread on-topic. I don't give a shit if EatsTooMuchJam doesn't like the pictures posted by ursa_minor, or if they do not meet his high photo standards. They are very nice photos and they do an excellent job of showing the location.

Any further flaming on the quality of the pictures will be deleted and the offender will be tempbanned.
