Has anyone heard about this thing or does anyone own one of the 10 million candlepower models?

This monster torch is sold at my local COSTCO and one has to have gorilla arms to pick it up. Heavy , cumbersome and completely useless at UE.

Ive done some fantastic light painting with it that I wouldnt have been able to do with a smaller light.

Mine recharges in about 40 minutes and lasts for over an hour with frequent use. Well worth the 30 bucks I spent for it.
Its only drawback is its size but it does come with a shoulder strap which helps a bit. Its still bulky and not for those sneaky explorations.

| | | | How long the light lasts all depends on the batteries inside. Most of the 10-15M lights will only hold a 20 minute charge. I get about an hour out of my 1M. You can always retrofit your light to use a different power source, but batteries are expensive.
I'd also like to point out something about the light output on these things (and indeed all flashlights). The candlepower measurement isn't a description of its real illumination power, its a description of the light as measured at a certain distance from the source and a certain area. Manufacturers use different measurement techniques to decieve you. I have both a 1M and a 2M but a quick dissassembly reveals that they use identical bulbs and batteries, the only difference is the reflector dish. Ironically in most situations my 1M is brighter than the 2M because the dish is better designed. When I ripped the label off of my 2M it actually said 1M underneath. Shady marketting.
As for the usefulness of the big lights it all depends on what you're up to. They are fantastic at lighting up large spaces like big factories and warehouses. I also like them for drains because a quick burst of the 1M will answer the question "How much further?" with the flick of a switch. They're good for light painting and absolutely essential for video or film work.
Of course as with everything there's room for improvement. One of my "when I have the time/money" projects is to build a lightweight variable power sun canon.

These lights are big and heavy and they don't last long but that's easy to over come.
Cut the bastard up - take the bulb, electronics and reflector and mount it on a hard hat - sling a motorcycle battery over your shoulder and head out.
I've got a 2MCP light I modified this way, comes in quite handy in the bowels of a titan missile base. I've tested charge at 10+ hours of operation. The SuperLight as I call it has come in very handy a number of times providing a quantity of light you just can't match with any mag or led light. If your crawling the catwalks of a missile silo there's nothing better - hands free, really light a room up well and a nice long charge.
I made it after my $60 coleman 2mcp light with "rechargable" battery crapped out in 20 minutes on me and I was stuck with a 2AA incandescent light for the rest of the night (that little 2aa light has been with me since the start and keeps on trucking, great backup light). AND I had to lug the damned thing along because I spent so much money on it.
Hacksaw, epoxy, a couple of battery connectors left over from a APC UPS, used motorcycle battery.....bam.

| | | | I hated the pistol-grip-attached-to-a-watermain design of my million candlepower, so I swapped its innards into a cheap Garrity 4.5V flashlight. Everything fits in nicely, the shape makes it allot easier to pack and it's signifigantly lighter.
It wasn't hard at all. I just un-soldered the wires from the trigger on the original body and soldered them to the click-switch in the Garrity light. Then I stuffed everything into the Garrity body and built a "firewall" from the top of a peanut can, to keep the wires away from the bulb. I was going to cut a hole and epoxy the rechargeing socket so it stuck through the hole, but if I did that, it wouldn't retain the waterproof-ness of the Garrity and it's not hard to unscrew the top of the light so I can recharge it.

I would think mobile search lights, boating, deep sea diving/construction also use extremely bright lights...
Now they would hurt more then help with UE.. but they have thier place..
