So how much do ya'll (insert Texas accent here) think we could discuss runs/war stories here without getting our butts in a sling over the right to privacy laws?

Think it would be ok as long as we didn't use names or locations? (Which I wouldn't divulge anyway)
Or it might be best not discuss them at all.
Any thoughts?

There are times when I like to bounce ideas or perhaps give a heads up on things I have run across and would appreciate the same.

as long as you don't mention names, locations and dates, I think you're fine.

A better question would be, do I really care? Ya, I'm that bitter about my job. In any case, as long as the subjects remain anonymous it shouldn't be a problem.

If you are not free to choose wrongly and irresponsibly, you are not free at all.

This is a private board. So long as it remains that way, and we all agree to keep it on the d-low...

However, adhering to the Health-care Blogger Code of Ethics (I'm not making this up!!)...wouldn't be a bad idea. It states:

1. Clear representation of perspective – readers must understand the training and overall perspective of the author of a blog. Certainly bloggers can have opinions on subjects outside of their training, and these opinions may be true, but readers must have a place to look on a blog to get an idea of where this author is coming from. This also encompasses the idea of the distinction between advertisement and content. This does not preclude anonymous blogging, but it asks that even anonymous bloggers share the professional perspective from which they are blogging.
2. Confidentiality – Bloggers must respect the nature of the relationship between patient and medical professionals and the clear need for confidentiality. All discussions of patients must be done in a way in which patients’ identity cannot be inferred. A patient’s name can only be revealed in a way that is in keeping with the laws that govern that practice (HIPPA, Informed Consent).
3. Commercial Disclosure – the presence or absence of commercial ties of the author must be made clear for the readers. If the author is using their blog to pitch a product, it must be clear that they are doing that. Any ties to device manufacturer and/or pharmaceutical company ties must be clearly stated.
4. Reliability of Information – citing sources when appropriate and changing inaccuracies when they are pointed out
5. Courtesy – Bloggers should not engage in personal attacks, nor should they allow their commenters to do so. Debate and discussion of ideas is one of the major purposes of blogging. While the ideas people hold should be criticized and even confronted, the overall purpose is a discussion of ideas, not those who hold ideas.

Where is this terrible place that's getting fucked by texas?

I hadnt thought of HIPA laws being related to this. When I worked for CVS we just had to be carefull with the inbound/outbound meds that we got at the shipping/recieving desk.
At the RiteAid D/C though, if a red or black bag broke open and pill bottles went all over the floor, you had to pick them all up (without looking at them!) and take them immediately to the massive trash compactor.

There were horror stories of people having been seen reading pill containers and getting fired for HIPA violation.

I'm pretty sure we can relate war stories without too much touble. I thought HIPA pertained mainly to people's personal medical records and such.

You can still get in shit for talking about a call you went on, it just depends on the situation. Let me explain.

Case a
In a metropolis city of 5 million ppl, talking about how you had a call last year where the driver's head got chopped off.. yeah it might not be that noticeable.

Case b
Talking about how your 100-calls-a-year department responded to a horrible reck where the driver lost their head last year in a town that has 200 people... yeah different story

It all depends on the situation, best bet is to talk it out with only your partner or at a debriefing.
