Steam Tunnels and the ROM
entry by Maggie
5/5/2005 4:25 PM

So rz350, myself, and a member from Meetup decided to make our way through the steam tunnels that started somewhere around the UoT area and ended up beneath the Royal Ontario Museum. rz350 and I had actually already checked out this location before and had, in fact, come up through the basement of the ROM and through the staff offices, and made it out without getting caught...but that day was not to be our lucky day XD

We walked through the length of the tunnels (which involves squeezing through a section that has a broken metal plate to avoid the alarmed door) and the many ladders/stairs/pipes (wheee) and arrived at the door to the ROM. We ended up at a level lower then we originally started at, but went ahead all the same. Made our way through the staff area and would have made it out again had we not stopped at the bathroom...bathroom was our undoing -_-'

Security ended up catching us (along with the man I assume was probably head of security--but by the looks of him, probably a museum director) while we were in the bathroom. It didn't go half-bad. They let us go without fine or arrest, but took down our names/DOB for future record anyway (and took time to ask if rz350 and I had been the same ones that had been there the last week--*cough*..."Maybe..."). Also went through one of the cameras to make sure we hadn't been taking any "sensitive" photographs XP But we got escorted out nicely enough, no baton beatings anyway, lol.

I work for a company contracted to the ROM and I am actually surprised that they got off their seats to come find you. Amazing! I'll tell Chris at the ROM you folks say hi!
