Sorry, that was kind of a pompous thing to say in retrospect. I was just trying to pre-empt a different class of messages that I find more awkward to answer.

I think it's just a straight shot. I was hoping for some rock, and I only had time to do ~1/4 of the estimated total length, so I plan to be back and check the rest of it. I'm not terribly optimistic, but there might have been a hint.

I'm more just thrilled I found something I can walk up-right in around here, and there were some cool mineral formations and ~1m long stalactites. Also no graffiti or other obvious signs of intrusion, hopefully it will stay that way.

Awesome. No crouch height and quite the distance. Hope you go back soon and post more photos. If not a drain, I can only think; a diverted or no longer used water pipeline. Too small for a train, and a mine wouldn't be smoothed out... neither would an old railway.

Dam. Some kind of penstock? Will be interesting to see if things start to go downhill after a km or so. Wear grippy boots

My first good find of the season. It took a bit, but it was worth the effort.

OK, so this isn't in Victoria, but it's within the area and it's not a drain, so I figured I'd give this thread another kick.

It's several kilometres long and roughly 3m tall. Sorry, but I'm not going to say anything more. Please don't ask.

i know where this is didn't have a camera at the time though great pic. Now that's my kinda tunnel, lots of height for a tall guy. there's a few cool things out that way.

It is indeed a very interesting area. Does anyone know more about it? I know the what/where/why/who, but I'd like to fill in some details.

For example, what's up with the name by the entrance? Why can't I find any references to it?

What's that weird structure near the entrance? It doesn't look like it dates from the same era with those heavy iron rivets and such. I wondered if it relates to an earlier tunnel attempt you can see on at least one older map.

Damn, now maybe I'm thinking I'm wrong and thinking of a different place. I need to find some older maps, should probably join archive society. Message me to discuss? I'd like to explore more.

Many will already have seen this on Reddit, but I felt like it needed to be posted here for posterity:

"When I was young my family owned Morley's, now Fisgard market. There is access to the tunnels from the stairs at the left side of the store. Going down, it quickly became this dark, brick walled series of rooms which you could see going up and down the length of Fisgard."

Something stirs underground once more, and the streets of the city begin to breathe again, inviting us in an almost desperate fashion, begging us to enter into her various openings, coaxing us to venture inside her narrow depths. We are drawn to her in the night.

She is ours to share, to cherish, and to love. We protect her from plunderers, we bring her the gift of our whispers, we enter her gently to magnify adventure and deepen the mystery.

I imagine her standing intangibly in the moonlight. Shadow-black hair, with golden constellation eyes. There is danger inside her which we cannot turn a blind eye to, for it would mean our certain demise. She fills us with pride. She is a symbol, she is an enigma, she tests us but is capable of gratifying us in the most unimaginable ways. The consensus is that she exists in many forms, but it is us few who have seen her with our very own eyes.

^What the hell are you talking about JP

On the topic of conspiracy theories:

Anyone find it odd that the Janion and the Johnson Street/Blue Bridge all by chance are being completely reconstructed at the same time in history, in this area that is legend to be a hotbed for underground activity, and the city council just had to have it despite fierce opposition and it turns out the original budget was bs and being severely delayed had been planned 2015 opening even right now there is an apparent work stoppage due to a six-month delay in the steel. ...Just seems odd just the whole ordeal.

Also the Superior/Michigan project makes me wonder.

I guess it wouldn't be surprising given that it is not a very safe hobby. I'm still interested in exploring if anyone who has more experience would be interested. It's way too hard to do alone. I'd be more worried about getting caught but also I can tell just from the pictures that are posted here I have not attempted things near as dangerous as many others who have posted on this thread. So kudos to all of you who have explored and photographed for the rest of us to be inspired by. Be safe down there

Not to dismiss the risk, but most of this isn't that hard.

Go grab your gumboots and a torch and check out the Hall of Wonders. If you had fun, go find another one of the larger ones. If you post about it here, someone will eventually want to explore with you.

You can go right now. It's cloudy but not wet.

If you're not into it, that's cool too. That's what the other half of this site is for.

^ ahem... and a full array of detectors and at least a N95 mask.

Truth be told it's dangerous as hell at any moment you could walk into your death.

....But who am I to judge.
