| Going solo entry by Kakesu 4/15/2005 7:32 PM
| I'm going solo for the first time tonight. In my town there's this old cinema that was converted into club. A couple of night's ago I found a way into it's attic area. The space is massive, derelict, and insanely busy just 40ft beneath where I'm going to be climbing. I haven't being doing this long enough to have acquired much gear, it's just going to be me, a redded out torch and a quid for the drinks machine by the exit. Four hours till dark, and I'm so excited I can barely sit still. This is going to rule. Wish me luck! Edit: Note to self, learn to spell. ---------- That was amazing! The building wasn't an old cinema, but an old theatre. Complete with remnants of set riggings and a hand scrawled "no smoking during the performance" sign. I even found some treasure, a beautiful old ornate pulley wheel that was lying in some old rope. The atmosphere of the place was kind of strange. Being there whilst the club was open gave a fun MGS feel to the proceedings, but I'd like to return after-hours some time. Hearing nothing but the godawful pop music that was pumping through the false floor was kind of distracting. I get the impression it could be kind of scary there, but a wholly different experience to the rooftops I'm used to. This place has history. Something learned from the trip: Pay attention to what day it is. I'd expected my jogging stuff to be pretty much the most inconspicuous stuff I could wear for running through the town centre in. And it probably would have been if it wasn't kicking out time on a Friday night. Plan the right social camouflage for the situation you expect to be in. Anyway, exploring alone. I think I like it.
