Asus p4p800se mobo, p4 3.2 ghz, 512 megs of ram, ati radeon 9800 128 meg, ATI ve video capture card, 80 gig hd, 52x cd drive All in a gaming case with 5 fans plus the heat sink fan. But i only have a 300 watt PS.

Now some people have told me my machine shouldnt run and i want to add a dvd rw and a fan controler. DO i have enough power to run it all or should i upgrade my power supply first?

If it's one of those shitty generic power supplys, upgrade it. It should work but I would upgrade to have some headroom.

Thats good, Im glad I wont need another PSU, if I need an extravagently priced part, Im going to go stick a new HP desktop on my almost maxed out credit card.

You definetely need a new PSU. I'm really surprised you can run all that as it is... must be a good psu. Get a 480W Antec TruePower PSU... they are pretty much limitless.

I really don't think a power supply is something to be messing with at all. If you have a question of whether or not it will be running something, then it's probably time to upgrade. And quality is key. Antec may be more expensive but in my experience, it is well worth it. A nice Antec PS ranging from 450 watts to 550 watts should be fine in pretty much any situation unless you're running some pretty exotic cooling.

Depends how many USB and other peripherals you have. I'd just a new one just to be safe.
