The Proposal
This will be a transformational $200+ million private sector investment that will fully restore Toronto Power and establish it as a world-class visitor experience that is unlike anything currently offered in the destination or the province.

The redevelopment plans include:

Niagara Falls’ first and only five-star boutique accommodation
A variety of culinary offerings
Craft brewery
Wellness and social spa
Event and programming space
Museum and Art Gallery
Theatre
Educational programming

The Opportunity
Niagara Parks has established four project goals for the redevelopment of Toronto Power:

Restoration of the heritage building (designated National Historic Site)
Creation of a new guest experience that does not exist in Niagara nor Ontario today
Payment of rent to Niagara Parks while covering all restoration and redevelopment costs
Significant capital investment that has an extensive economic impact for Niagara and Ontario

WOrth keeping an eye on this... maybe some further exploration opportunities arise when construction starts? I wonder what they do on the deeper inside. It would also be quite nuts if the tailrace gets rankine treatment aka public access.

I have to admit, as exclusie as it will be, this project does look kinda awesome. The stuff of dreams for the rich

I am hoping the designer / architect maintains a high degree of existing elements of the former facility.

Anyone had any experience here before? I think I casually looked into this during a trip to Niagara in 2018-19 but it was an absolute no go. I know some of Freaktography's friends did it a while back, but it was way above my level. Have since moved to Eastern Ontario and haven't been back since but I would be willing to take a crack at it again if it opens up a bit with this reconstruction.

Yes, that write up is one of those things that everyone urbex-wanked to since age immemorial, a timeless testament to awesomeness!

I'm in the Fergus/Elora/Salem area often enough. They did a good job on the Elora Mill.

Very exciting news about the planned restoration. Given the fact it's being turned into a luxury hotel I don't foresee tailrace access like they did at Rankine, plus it's much closer to the river and potentially less stable. The building was derelict for much longer than Rankine, with the wheelpit being particularly perilous. My guess is they basically cap off the wheelpit and build over top. There will probably be some type of access portal for future inspection, but as with everything else in Niagara, it will now have cameras. Who knows, it's worth keeping an eye on anyway
