Site Security Info

I'm looking to explore the area at 34.709260, -85.927698 in the coming weeks. I've come across one blog where someone gets close but doesn't really go into any detail about the site. I've done my best to get information about the site but haven't gotten any luck.

Has anyone explored this place yet or at least has any information about security/access. I don't want to drive all the way there and find out I can't get anywhere near because the road is gated off. If you have info on access please DM me per forum rules.

What makes you say that? It's a non functional plant. It never produced power, most of the significant assets (steam generators, pumps, etc) were sold off, a sale of the site fell through in 2018, and construction permits were withdrawn/lapsed in 2021. So, it seems the place is pretty much dead. There are explorers who've been to similar sites in the past, so it could be possible.

It's not like other unfinished nuclear plants that were just concrete shells, this one was very close to having a complete reactor. From just doing a cursory search I found out it's still maintained by the federally owned energy company in compliance with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission permits that were granted, so yes, you probably want to think twice about wandering into it.

Any deactivated reactor(such as your first post) or near enough to be completed that the design is sensitive information, is a danger to have the public have access too. Often times old or unused reactors are used for dry storage and that isn’t always public. And likely other plants are of similar design and they do not want people to know weak points.

If caught expect the Feds to through the book at you, it does look cool to explore but it is not worth the risk in any way shape or form. Not even to mention possible hazards.

I don't think you need to drive all the way up there to know that this place will be guarded and secured very well.

The least of your worries should be "a gate" but the actual (and probably federal) security waiting for you there.

It sucks but the only way for you to know would be to scout it by night but if you are not used to do stuff like that, don't do it.

WOW! 6 BILLION Dollars spent and basically nothing to show for it and was selling it for 111 million. And we wonder why our electric rates are high! lol

As Toba Said, this isn't like Satsop where it was only about 25% complete. NOT only was it close to completion they are still building plants based on the same design and it has NOT been stripped of all of its equipment, there is a lot remaining or the guys who were buying it wouldn't have planned on finishing it.
