Some friends and I are planning to drive out to Indiana today, and I was thinking of stopping in Gary to see this church. What should I know before I go? Any security, environmental, decay kind of hazards I need to look out for?

It's pretty much the most famous abandoned church in the country, you won't have any problems.

Try not to fall to your death if you climb the steeple, other than that it's easy.

Follow up: I saw a bunch of other abandoned places in the area while I was driving around. One in particular that caught my eye was the Horace Mann school. I'm thinking of going back to have a look around.

Is there anything I need to watch out for with regard to security or environmental hazards? I bring it up because I was reading the other post re: Gary schools in the Great Lakes forum, and it was mentioned that some schools are pretty monitored and have fast police response times. The heavy graffiti on the building makes me think that the security is pretty lax, but I'm asking just in case.

At the risk of asking too many questions, I'm also requesting any information anyone may have on the Genesis convention center, Ambridge elementary, or the building visible from I294 near exit 6 (covered in graffiti, looked from a distance like a school to me).

I don't recall seeing that face to the left of the kid, maybe I just didn't notice it at the time or it was painted over, but I would have definitely found that creepy
