Almost a year ago some friends and I stumbled across a bunker in the Bay Area after looking around for two days. San Francisco has some really cool history.

Here is "Trash Can Bunker" as we have nicknamed it:

1. "Why the name?" you may ask.



2. "First contact". This picture shows out view as we slightly opened the door, just enough to peek in and make sure no one else was inside that we didn't want to meet.



3. It really looked like someone had been living here for a while. Nothing fresh when we were down there though.



4. The first trash can had been found, with many many more to come. There was also a weird electrical box I could not identify.



I recorded a video of the entire exploration, so if anyone is interested I can pull more pictures from it. I can not post the entire video because there are some personally identifying parts.

I plan to go back again this summer so there may be another post.

The amount of diseases in the there.. Homeless man definitely lived there. Nice find.

Most certainly. If I recall correctly there were 3 obvious beds, a large water container(ones you see outside a grocery store), a piss bottle or two(luckily sealed and didn't smell), some shoes, a Rubik's cube, the bookshelf pictured, and a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff. It was my first real "hidden" spot I explored.

Made sure to yell real loud before I went in incase anyone was down there. I also figured it was safe to breathe since someone lived down there before and I didn't smell(or end up finding) a dead body.

San Francisco has some pretty cool spots.

find any mold or spots where water is able to leak in?

I don’t know how anyone can live in that

reminds me of the old house that used to be at 666 hamilton st in sf, sadly got torn down some time last year

Due to the nature of the bunker, there were ventilation spots but no water got anywhere where it shouldn't be in the living space as far as I could tell. No visible mold or smell, it felt slightly damp (the air) but nothing out of the ordinary for underground.

There are floor panels that come up to reveal spots where pipes and other wires/hoses ran beneath the floor. A few of the panels were up and in one spot everything visible was very rusted. It had not rained (but 0.02" 2 weeks before) in months before I visited. (just checked SF rain history) I don't believe it could have let that much rain in since people were living down there for a while.

Since nothing else was overly rusted, I bet a pipe was leaking at some point in time to rust just that one area.

Just wanted to give a quick update since I’m back in the Bag Area, this bunker is now sealed up. There may be a way you can get in through an air vent shaft, but it may a require cutting through the vent system.
