Year in Review, 2020

It goes without saying that 2020 was an awful year for almost everyone. In addition to the stress of the year we were on probation for nearly the entire time. In a way, it wasn't as bad as if it had happened any other time. Nearly everyone on this planet had an obligation to stop traveling and doing fun shit with their friends. Somehow we still managed to get out to over one hundred different locations, looking over our shoulders the entire time. As a matter of fact, we christened the new year inside a powered up abandoned hospital with a couple good friends. We didn't spent the entire year focusing on the same high risk, hard to access spots like we have the last few years. There was a fair bit of that of course, but we really spent a lot of time on the easier and at times unconventional locations. It wound up being a great opportunity to slow down and see some of the stuff we had been driving past to get to more sensitive locations. In the end I think we came out with an even more thorough understanding and appreciation of the northeast's abandoned landscape. I developed a real fondness for railroad infrastructure, both active and abandoned. And even on a leash we managed to explore in two new states. We were extremely fortunate to be able to see some of our dear friends without compromising anyone's safety. I'm thoroughly done with 2020, and a little nervous for what 2021 is going to bring, but I'm hoping it's better for all of us

Alright, enough rambling. On to the reason ya came. One photo per location as always. This year I'm not grouping the buildings by type, I'm just throwing it all out there.

Very nice set! Looks like even for such a crap year, you still managed some great explores. Love that roller coaster shot; if that's the place I think it is, I really want to see that sometime.
RIP Allentown asylum; by the time I had it on my radar, it was mostly gone, but I guess the few shots I got is better than nothing.
Anyway, thank you for sharing this incredible review, good luck to you, and to us all in '21.

Every year you post this year-end post and I get jealous of all the great places you get to go to.

This year is no exception. This is a great set of shots from a lot of cool places, I'm hoping 2021 is even better. Kudos.

Not a bad year at all for trying to take things easy! Can't wait to see what you get up to once you're off probation. There's some great high-risk high-reward stuff out there right now that I'm sure you've been eyeing.

I've always got my eyes on the prize, you know. Hopefully things work out better this year.

Let's hope for good things this year man. Things are looking good with the vaccine rollout over here. Maybe by mid year this will all be under control.

This is so true. I've spent hours on Google maps looking at old right of ways, its amazing how many are still intact centuries later. I also always enjoy seeing where you and the rest of the MetroTrails crew end up. Mike is such a knowledgeable resource for all things railroad, he really blows my mind sometimes.
