Abandoned Wind Turbine Factory

In the early 2010s, a Chinese firm announced that it was investing $25 million and creating 250 jobs in
southern Ontario with the opening of this new wind turbine manufacturing facility.

The chief executive officer of the overseas firm announced, "We are thrilled to be bringing this level of
investment to the city and region." After four days of intense negotiations, the local mayor stated in a
media release, "The future is looking bright!" The local member of provincial government exclaimed,
"We are getting out of dirty coal. Clean energy is the way to go. It is the future."

After only 3 years of operation, the entire 210-acre site was completely abandoned
and has been in this state ever since.

11. Foreman's Office

Sadly, in 2013, a worker was standing on the tracks in the photo below,
positioned between two massive wind tower segments that were resting on adjustable welding rotators.
The worker was collecting tools from the work area when one of the tower segments began to
silently move along the tracks. He was unaware of its approach until it was within 10 centimetres,
and the worker was unable to escape. He desperately called out for someone to stop the segment's
movement with a remote control, but by time his co-workers responded, he had
already been crushed between two tower segments.

The worker had been employed at the plant for about three weeks.
The company was fined $80,000.

Perhaps the most shocking aspects of this location was the sheer abandonment of assets.
When the overseas company pulled out of North America, it was very sudden and it seems as
though no attempt was made to sell anything. I did not include photos of the
business office area in this gallery, but even personal items like coffee mugs,
expensive sunglasses and family photos still sit on the desks of senior management.
I find I am sometimes quite liberal with the term "abandoned" in this hobby, but this
is a location that quite literally was completely and utterly abandoned.

I'll leave you with a pair of photos from the work floor of the plant as
a timely little industrial warm wish.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Very cool find! I love the Christmas tree, very festive.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

Love it. I really need to make an actual effort to explore more in Canada rather than just the odd day trip here and there like I've done before.
