Mohawk Tipple - Hillcrest Coal Mine Ruins - Crowsnest Pass, AB < on 11/3/2020 1:23 AM > | Reply with Quote
Mining activity in Crowsnest Pass persisted long after the Frank Slide and Hillcrest mine disasters of the early 1900s. These particular ruins, what's left of the Mohawk Tipple, date back to the 1930s. The plant was shut down in 1952 and the tipple was eventually consumed by a fire, leaving only the concrete skeleton and a mess of ruined processing machinery behind.
This one should be a familiar sight to anybody that travels between BC and AB via Highway 3. I've noticed it many times in passing but only recently found an opportunity for a closer look.
