I don't have too much information on this quaint little house, affectionately nicknamed grandma's house. It was a little house set back on a busy main road. From looking around I found a little old lady, named Mary, had lived there for many years after loosing her husband in 1983, who I found out was a seaman for the coast guard. Mary had worked for the local hospital right down the street, which was also abandoned shortly after her retirement. Mary loved to garden and crochet. She was a mother of 4 children and was predeceased by 2 of her sons. Mary passed in 2010 at the age of 94; leaving behind 2 children, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. I wonder why no one bothered to maintain the house or at least remove the wonderful family memories left behind.

Unfortunately, I had heard from other explorers that this house had become very popular with local kids shortly after my visit resulting in a lot of vandalism. Sadly, the town was forced to demo it due to all the people getting caught trespassing and vandalizing. Ugh, I really really hate that!!

Modified because it didn't post the pictures the first time, so odd, I thought I had attached them. Oops!

Love the Milk-Glass lamp # 14. i actually had one of those when i was a teenager. I also see alot of crocheted items like dolls and bed toppers (afghans). How interesting its all in such good condition and left just like someone had them when they were alive. With so many relatives, i too wonder why no one ever came for there mothers, or grandmothers things. Sad. Nice Set of photos!

I loved that lamp too! It reminded me so much of the one my grandparents had when I was growing up as well. It's sad to think the elder woman that lived there crocheted all those things for them to become a part of a pile of ruble. It really makes you wonder. Thanks so much for checking this out!

Nice thread, and great photos! I really like the perspective in 14!

The lamp is interesting, and the base is identical to what my family passed down...

Still working on it...

Sad to hear about all the vandalism, the place really does have that grandma's house vibes. It's weird how the family never bothered to go back to the house after she passed away. Even if the stuff there seemed of no value, they just left all the pictures and everything? Sad to hear that it's gone now, it's a cool set.

I'm trying to understand what is the purpose of these people who are doing vandalism? It's like I come to their house and repaint their walls without their permission. Do you think they won't want my head?

In my region, since COVID-19, there are 10 times more bad people who have come to visit abandoned places and they have not left with clean hands, eh.
What we do is becoming more popular, but because a majority do it for this popularity and that makes us arrive in a place, then we are rarely alone now.
That sucks!

I've been wondering for a while if there are any products to remove paint from cane? Do you know if it's worth my doing a thread on this?

The vandalism is awful especially to someone's home even if no one lives there anymore. The place was very calming like you would except a grandmothers house to be. I find it odd some stuff wasn't taken by family when she passed; little things like all the blankets this woman probably spent hours making and the family photos. I'm sad its gone and other true explorers couldn't enjoy it before some jerk kids got to it. Thanks for the reply!

I don't get it either, they just ruin the place for everyone else actually trying to enjoy it. It's so unfortunate that this hobby is not what it used to be. You're totally right, urbex has become more bad people ruining these places rather than good people trying to preserve them. And so many people wonder why urban exploration is so secretive and built on trust.

I am sure there are several products for paint removal however you may be wasting your time in trying. The thought and idea behind removing the spray paint/vandalism is wonderful but I feel as if all the hard work it took to remove it would unfortunately be ruined again by vandals. I follow a group on Instagram, called @exhibit8, that did a reverse vandalism project at an abandoned hospital. They completely redid one whole room in the hospital; from painting white walls, adding a bed/blankets/pillows, adding everything down to minor details. The room looked amazing and untouched when finished, it took them days of hard work. It lasted quite awhile until again some jerks destroyed their days of amazing work by setting that room on fire. Unfortunately, I don't think there is much escape from vandals.

As for doing a thread on it, I don't see why not. I would recommend doing something more of a bigger spectrum thread geared towards reversing vandalism so everyone could put in their thoughts and what they do in their regions to put a stop to it. Just a suggestion however. If you do, I am excited to see what you come up with!

Even left the family Bible from the look of things.
