This place came to my attention thanks to the Proper People and their overnight stay here. When the video was first posted, I lived nearly 500 miles away. I never thought that, a little more than a year later, I'd have to drive just a little over an hour to see it for myself. You would think that the remote location of this radar base would have protected it from the fate of most abandoned buildings, but in truth this place was subjected to scrapping and then vandalism almost from the instant it shut down in 1963. These days, it's a popular destination where YouTubers, local boys and tourists mingle, drawn by the view as much as the structures and their history.

The only workable road to the base passes this one-room schoolhouse, which I couldn't resist visiting on the return trip.
