Hey there UER it's been some time since I've posted but this location is one that I couldn't help but share with you.

If you know this area and plan to visit please do not park anywhere near POE. Take a hike! This is probably my favorite location on the island so please treat it respectively even though it's fairly well known.

For anyone who's never had the pleasure of exploring here I highly suggest you give it a go. There are four buildings, three of which are fully bunkered gun emplacements complete with ammo elevators and a connecting tunnel system. The fourth is another bunkered lookout/radio control tower overlooking all three turrets and the bay. All of these buildings are occasionally home to a variety of seasonally migrating species of endangered bats which have come to rely on the structures to raise young. If you plan on exploring the interiors please be careful and considerate in doing so.

I will be updating thread with the rest of my photos when I finally dump my SD card until then here are some that I have on my phone.

I really dig that first picture with the sedums. Do you know the name of the bat, and have you ever gotten any pictures of them?

Thanks! From my understanding we have at least two species that make their homes there. In the summer months the upper building is heavily occupied by what I believe are the Little Brown Myotis and the lower bunkers are occupied by the Northern Myotis during the winter. I'll try to take pictures of the actual bats next time. I was hesitant to disturb them with the flash but they are VERY loud and there are LOTS of them!
