Went out to a former car dealership that closed in 2008 amidst the economic crisis. After the company abruptly closed its doors dozens of employees lost their jobs and the building has sat vacant ever since. The dealership consisted of several maintenance garages, a showroom, and many offices. It was a lot bigger on the inside than what it appeared from the outside which caught me off guard during this explore. The building has become a local graffiti spot and signs of squatters could be seen throughout the building.

1. One of the maintenance garages.

2.

3. This was the only natural light in the entire building. A small skylight lit up the unstable staircase leading to the second story offices.

4.

5.

6. More offices.

7. The car showroom. Nearly all the glass was destroyed.

8. No keys left behind

9.

10.

11. Thought this was cool. From what I've been told, these "Zip Tubes" were like vacuums that could send paper messages or small objects throughout different parts of the building. Obviously some pre-texting technology.

12.

13. The mechanic shop's front desk.

Yes, those tubes have been used for the last 70 or 80 years. Banks used to use them in the outer drive through lanes. You would pull up and put your deposit slip and checks in the little shuttle, drop it into the bin, and push the "send" button. When the teller was done, the shuttle would drop out of your machine where you would take out the contents.

Department stores would use them to transport documents or even money to and from a central location. The really cool tubes were clear plastic so you could watch the little shuttles scoot back and forth through the tubes.

I hadn't thought about those in years. Yes, I'm that old....

Very cool! This was my first time seeing them before. I'll have to keep an eye out for them in future explores or any building I'm in for that matter!

Hospitals still use tube systems for quick transport of either lab specimens or drugs/medications.

I just want to explore places my own family and friends wouldn't.
