I never knew that there were others like me. I was arrested as a minor for "Burglary in the 3rd Degree" which means they believed I had been inside an abandoned house with intent to steal. This wasn't the case; I've had a life-long fascination for exploring abandoned sites. i don't have to explain the thrill to you guys.

Anyway, I've never done it in a group and I just moved to NYC. I life in Harlem. NY is jam packed with potential sites including the abandoned smallpox hospital on Roosevelt Island, among many empty hospitals which seem particularly intriguing.

This is my first post and I had to wait the three days for it.

New York City is definitely the place to be if you're interested in urban exploration.

New York City is some of my favorite exploring and probably the spot I spent most of my time in.

Anyway, NYC is a notoriously hard city to explore in. There's nowhere else (besides maybe Washington DC) where the post-9/11 surveillance state expanded as much as it did in NYC, and they NYPD has more officers than the armies of some countries. That being said, people do explore there.

Most of what I've seen online comes from rooftoppers, which is understandably a big part of urbex in NYC. There are folks who do the drains and subways and sewers too, but they tend to keep a much lower profile online because so much of what they do is considered critical infrastructure and post-9/11 New York has been rather sensitive about that. There's bandos too, but from my understanding not as many as you'd expect from a city the size of NYC- instead most folks just cross the river into Newark to get their bando fix, because there's more than you can shake a stick at there.

Bottom line, there's folks out there. They tend to either keep a low profile or blow stuff on Tiktok with no middle ground, but they're out there. Just keep exploring, posting photos, and interacting with the community online in spaces like this forum and Instagram and you'll find them eventually- or maybe they'll find you.

I would say that cameras are more effective than actual officers are. For exploring wise anyway. The number of officers the NYPD has does not make exploring there any harder than Newark or any other major city. I’m more worried about cameras or the average New Yorker seeing you and calling you in like you’re some kind of terrorist.

There are quite a bit of abandoned locations in NYC but it is not the type as people have said on this thread, you can walk into easily. Most of the time you either have to summersault over green boards and hope no one sees you or find a creative entrance most people will overlook. NYC has them but you have to be creative and have a bit of luck to get into some of them.

I am currently sitting on two churches but entrances right now are hard because of people on the street during the summer. It might be doable now as winter sets in for me.

Can confirm. Central or inner city London is an almost (almost) impossible city to actually explore anything above ground in. Much like NYC there are people out there who do the underground stuff, and usually keep it on the downlow although recently a group of morons decided to post one of the disused tube stations across Youtube and other social media acting like they were the only people who had ever done it.

It's impossible to do anything high in London now thanks to the few complete dickheads who whored out a load of the skyscrapers again across Instagram and Facebook and Youtube resulting in most if not all of the tall buildings in the city getting legal injunctions put on them which means if you do trespass on them you are in contempt of court and will be arrested without question.

There are a few notable derelict buildings in 'the city' but again nothing particularly easy. I personally really don't like London, I never have, despite living less than an hour away from it I rarely if ever venture there.
