This is one of many abandoned bunkers/batteries (constructed in the late 1800s to early 1900s) in the vicinity. Since they are technically in a state park, many of these locations have been extensively restored due to their popularity among tourists. As this spot is also incredibly popular among locals, I figured I would post it here rather than in the regional forum.

This particular battery, depicted in the photos below, was constructed in 1901 and officially deactivated in 1917. During my visit, it was completely deserted and still appeared quite overgrown and dilapidated. Evidently, this is one of the lesser-known batteries in the area.

Here's a bonus photo of a tiny building that was situated on a steep hill overlooking the battery. Side note - I now notice what is probably a cobweb creating a massive, distracting diagonal line right across the middle of the photo. Apologies!

The view from said building.

Approaching the bunker from a somewhat hidden dirt path, after coming down from the hill.

Looking back.

The interior rooms of the building all looked something like this. Completely dark (without the flash) and barren. I found the exterior of the building much more interesting.

Possibly my favorite photo from this set. These buildings were strategically positioned for defense purposes during times of war, which explains the incredible views.
