Today has been an absolute shit storm of internet police, keyboard warriors, Karens and more!

I have found upwards of 10-15 guns left behind over the past few years. When I find them, I photograph them and then I hide them so they don't get in the wrong hands. I also check and clear them to ensure they're not loaded.

The experts of the world claim that there is no way that a house with guns left behind would be abandoned, because I guess to some people guns are so sacred that it would be a sin to leave them behind.

This was a clearly vacant and unused house, this old abandoned farmhouse was found tucked away down a very remote backroad, the entire front and back of the property had trash strewn all over the place and there were multiple vehicles and an old dead tractor in the driveway.

Full transparency, the land is still used for farming as there were several cows off to the side of the house and a curious horse was watching me as I approached the home and entered.

But the home, well see for yourself....

Have you found guns, if so what did you do?

If you were to find guns, what do you think you would do?

I'm gonna be honest it would depend on the context. If I found one in a storm drain or abandoned factory I'd make sure not to leave prints on it and turn it in to the police, because I'd figure that they were deliberately discarded due to being potential evidence in a crime.

But if they were found in a context where the owner clearly abandoned them such as like you did? I'd probably make the same decision, unload them, hide them on site, and leave them behind.

Keeping in mind this is Canada which has a very different gun situation than the US, I think I would consider reporting them anonymously or disposing of them myself, after careful deliberation.

I'd also as an American what kind of guns they are. They don't look like the kind of weapons you'd bring to break quarantine with.

Yes, they were there and find before me and they will be fine after I leave, even more so when hidden

Thanks for the comment

There's a book out there called The Shooter's Bible that references pretty much every firearm ever made. You could reference your find to learn a bit more about them and what they're worth. They may be completely worthless except to certain collectors.

They also may be unsafe to shoot and there's no easy way to determine that. Many times, older firearms are not designed for modern ammunition. For instance, the .45-70 ammunition you buy in the store comes 2 ways. 45-70 Government and 45-70 Sport. The Government variety is intended for use in 1870s vintage trap-door rifles. The Sport version is intended for modern rifles. If you put the Sport version in an 1870s rifle, the rifle will explode.

They could also use ammunition that is extremely expensive as well as hard, if not impossible to find.

As far removing them...

In the US, outside of certain major cities (i.e. NYC, Chicago), neither of those weapons are restricted. If you removed them to a safe location (your living room wall) no one would likely care. They would technically be stolen, but unless they were reported stolen, no one would care.

Leaving them better hidden was probably a good move.

I found a rifle in a house once. I treated it as if it were loaded (common sense safety and all that), and left it hanging where I had found it.

well about leaving a gun behind you are right but it seems like the family leaved in a hurry. And what you done whit them was the right thing to do imagine if a kid found them.

Without ammunition, they're completely harmless.

I like concrete. It’s either already collapsed or perfectly safe

I'll probably never touch any gun in an abandoned property. I'm too afraid of what could happen. Even though I think your instinct to hide them is very cool, I'm really not good with weapons.

Your photo set is really nice. I love the ice boots, those are old, I would say something like 70 years old. That's impressive to find such things.

What DONT you find while exploring?

I'd just dismantle it and hide half of it, then toss the other half in the woods to rot.

unless they were brand new, then i'd take them. maybe.

Really awesome pictures. I especially like the ones of the old photo albums and scrap books. It's always interesting to see the pictures of past residents.

About the guns... you were on a farm, so finding rifles laying around is cool, but nothing to be concerned about. It's not common that people leave them behind, but I'm guessing because they're old and not very special, they left them just like every other tool laying around. They look too rusted and old to be safe for use any longer. Possibly more dangerous to the person shooting them than what they're shooting at.

Nice pictures.

I've only found expired prescription pharmaceuticals while exploring.

Great pictures, this looks like a very cool location. I love seeing everything people leave behind, it's like a time capsule.

As for the guns, I don't know what I would do. I have no experience handling them so in most cases I wouldn't even know how to unload them... I'd say unloading and then hiding them is a good choice though. Guns as old as the ones here wouldn't freak me out as much as modern weapons would... if I stumbled across a modern gun while exploring I would probably turn it in to the police. Normally I don't fw law enforcement, but I would be worried they would find the gun later, and then find evidence of my exploring there, and if they were able to trace it back to me I could become a suspect instantly. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but those are my thoughts on the matter!
