This means a lot to me man. That's absolutely one of my favorite things about living where I do. I keep coming across places that I would probably never see anyone else visit, and I get to document and share them with people.
Posted by RAYGUN Great photos of the National Guard armory ... sad to see it starting to decay. You would think something as architecturally interesting as this (love the ceiling struts) built in 1916 would be embraced as a historical property? Looks like a dam great place to shoot a few hoops and maybe practice some martial arts ... tai-chi anybody!

Originally, the plan was for this to become a museum operated by the local historical society, which would have been cool to see. A lot of the building is actually gutted from their attempts to abate the asbestos and mold, but then they started getting estimates in the realm of $2 million to complete the work. So that was the end of that, and it's been sitting abandoned for almost ten years now. It's historical status is probably the only thing keeping it from demolition, besides the remaining contaminants.
If 1916 isn't historic enough, the church dates from at least 1888.

You know it! Unlike the other place, there wasn't much left to indicate its military origin, except for the marble fireplace in the old officer's quarters.
