Some more diversions during quarantine, starting with a former National Guard armory built in 1916 and later used as the headquarters of this town's recreation department. I visited during a heavy rain, and on the top floor I noticed a pipe which allowed a huge quantity of water to gush into the building. This could easily be observed flowing down through the floors all the way to the basement, leaving mold, rot, and disintegrating plaster in its wake. In short, this place is properly fucked.

Next up, easily the best church I've ever found of my own accord.

These are way cool.

Both of those organs are worth quite a bit… hopefully someone is still around to sell those off.

Great photos of the National Guard armory ... sad to see it starting to decay. You would think something as architecturally interesting as this (love the ceiling struts) built in 1916 would be embraced as a historical property? Looks like a dam great place to shoot a few hoops and maybe practice some martial arts ... tai-chi anybody!

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time.

This means a lot to me man. That's absolutely one of my favorite things about living where I do. I keep coming across places that I would probably never see anyone else visit, and I get to document and share them with people.

Originally, the plan was for this to become a museum operated by the local historical society, which would have been cool to see. A lot of the building is actually gutted from their attempts to abate the asbestos and mold, but then they started getting estimates in the realm of $2 million to complete the work. So that was the end of that, and it's been sitting abandoned for almost ten years now. It's historical status is probably the only thing keeping it from demolition, besides the remaining contaminants.

If 1916 isn't historic enough, the church dates from at least 1888.

You know it! Unlike the other place, there wasn't much left to indicate its military origin, except for the marble fireplace in the old officer's quarters.

F@cking Hell, what a great set. Liked the Rec Center but love the Church. It looks pristine and maybe I am just too stupid to get it, but why abandon the church. It looks stunning and in good shape.
