This photo was taken on top of the tallest building in the complex of buildings we had been exploring that day. While I couldn't get everyone's permission to show their faces, so they are blurred, I feel the overall feeling of the picture still remains.

That harsh white blowout kinda ruins it though.

I guess I don't understand what you mean when you say it ruined it, can you be more specific?

The bright blob in the middle is distracting and kind of annoying.

I'm impressed so many of you have p100 respirators.

I wanted to try and deep dive better into why the white could be distracting here. Hopefully this helps. I think I learned something by thinking through this too.

The white patch is very bright, and draws your eyes to it instead of the subject of the photo (the explorers), which is a lot more in shadow. Even if I'm looking at the explorers, my eyes move toward the white patch anyway. If you kind of blur your eyes while looking at it, you can definitely see what catches your eye the most, and that's probably what people find distracting.

On a separate note, I really like the vibe from the photo! It brings to mind memories of exploring all day with people and deciding to watch the sunset together

Thanks OpenHouse for the explanation and thank you to all the positive comments. When the photo was taken, it was before I join UER and was still getting my bearings with my camera, but I'm glad you guys thought so highly of it

It’d be nice if you guys took the picture in the opposite, with the sunset facing you guys so that the sun in the background wouldn’t cause that, since it looked like it was golden hour, or post golden hour. Either way, it’d create a warm, or a warm soft light on you guys, instead of being overshadowed with the sun in the back.
