I have a feeling this place is about to get blown up. I know it's a tough hike to get here but now the owners and neighbors will be on high alert.

It was already all over instagram. People have been making no effort to hide it for years now. If anyone didn't already get there they should stop sleeping on spots.

This is never going to stop. Get out in front of it or get over it.

Given that Exploring with Josh and his group of cronies did it about 1 and a half years ago and name dropped the place, I think we'll be alright.

The last thing I'd want as an urban explorer is 1.03 million people watching me explore. .... But to each their own I guess

Agreed. I understand some people say it's a well known spot. Most well known spots are trashed, graffiti, burn down or demolished. This place is still in good condition. Would hate to see it get trashed because a YouTube channel with 1+million subscribers want to visit and potentially destroy this place.

Max told the reason why he posted a video of what you would call a "unknown location" two days ago

Posted by Max Power @strangeplaces

^THE SPOT HAS BEEN BLOWN-UP FOR YEARS NOW. . There are at least 50 Youtube videos (racking-up millions of views across the entire world), and dozens of articles about the island, and the explorers who have been there. There have been reports about explorers visiting the island on local Florida TV networks. Not to mention the MILLIONS OF PEOPLE who remember visiting the island before it closed. Its one of the most famous abandoned places on Earth. This isn't some obscure power plant, or house in the middle of nowhere. This was a giant tourist trap that has been written about the past two decades.

And to the people who say urban exploration is about "preserving history," how are you preserving history by hoarding photos and videos that you took at abandoned locations? That's like taking all history books in schools and throwing them in a vault and not letting anyone look at them.

We document history so that people can know, and understand what happened in the past. If you want people to appreciate the history of abandoned places, you have to first teach people the history of the locations, why it's significant, what happened there, and what's left of it. Say what you want about my channel, but my videos have actually educated hundreds of thousands of people on the history of some abandoned places. The photo/video hoarders have not educated anyone.

So you want people to appreciate, and respect abandoned places, but you don't want to tell anyone about abandoned places. Tell me how that makes any sense. And btw, the best way to ensure that historic places aren't demolished is by showing people how incredible and important a location is. That cannot be done by hoarding photos, and being anti-social.

And yes, I make my videos fun and entertaining. No one is going to watch a bland-ass video of some guy with a robotic personality walking around an abandoned building. And I don't want to edit and create a boring video. And I'm also not ashamed to admit that I will continue to try and gain followers, and I want to make money off of my channel so I can make money doing what I love: filmmaking and exploring.

Furthermore, on a different point: explorers have been exploring, and documenting their findings (and making them public) for thousands of years. From Marco Polo to Shackleton. If it were up to some people on this forum, half the world wouldn't even be on a map.

My intel has suggested that this place is no longer "abandoned" and they are making preparations to reopen the park. Just the word on the street from North Carolina explorers.

Hilariously, the guy who made that thread (TX3000 whatever) and I chatted on Discord... And the place he intended on hosting this meet up thingy he was planning is the exact location in the video that's the topic of this thread... Fascinating stuff.

Yeah, in they often sit on locations for months or years and many of their videos only go up once the place is demolished. Furthermore they've said in their QA vids that there's some locations they may not ever post because they're too special. I'd definitely categorize the Proper People as the kind of explorers who try to protect the places they visit.

To pile on the praise I suppose, they're one of an ever-decreasing number of Urbex channels that doesn't have to rely on clickbait titles and silly graphics to try to attract attention; their vids feel incredibly authentic as a result. That seems rare nowadays, and they deserve big respect for it.

Pretty sure one of them's actually on UER, but I can't remember the username. They've posted recently, though.

Sorry guys, guess we should just delete our channel since we were fortunate enough to become successful. We should just be letting the professional paranormal clickbait etc YouTubers be the role models of urbex for the masses. Seriously you can get away with posting so much and people will cheer you on until suddenly you cross a certain threshold of popularity and you're suddenly a villain. Sorry to sound crotchity but this stuff really does get annoying when it comes from within the community. Most people have no idea the shit we could post that would easily get millions of views if we didn't care about the locations. We always try to tailor our videos towards the community and create stuff that we would be interested in watching ourselves, rather than appealing to the lowest-common-denominator YouTube audience. If we only posted the most trashed, least interesting places that everyone knows about, nobody actually in the community would be interested in watching our videos. But we also do intentionally prioritize the most well-known and least sensitive spots when deciding what to post next. It's always a balancing act between those two sides of the coin.

Also that thread about Josh being fake is hilarious, this is the first time I've seen it. I can assure you we did not have permission to be there, we literally just showed up and had a chill exploration for a few hours.

Knew y'all were on here!

Don't listen to the hate, y'all are a breath of fresh air compared to the masses of clickbait urbex on YT.
