Slowly we all started to empathise with the Romantically Apocalyptic comic.

Hey Steed. Able to shed light on what s Korea is doing right?

And any pointers on this to do and ways to conduct ourselves that are actually useful?

A lot of the articles thrown around, are just media news. And not helpful in any way.

S Korea did a simply astonishing amount of testing and more important tracking and tracing everyone who'd been in contact with infected persons early on - they have experience from dealing with the SARs outbreak if I remember rightly so have a very strong robust response to things like this.

Absolutely, it's the model of how other countries *should* have handled it.

Yes. And Italy, now USA (sorry Americans) are models of what not to do.

It doesn't hurt that we've had a lot of experience with disease outbreaks in the recent past. The 2015 MERS outbreak was totally mishandled by the government (lack of transparency, containment carelessness at medical facilities), and I think we came out of that one with lots of ideas of how it could be done better. We also had a major swine flu outbreak last year that was really, really difficult to fight (and might still be ongoing).

Overall, Korea's government has acted competently, and the people have a high level of trust in the current administration, neither of which has been the case in the US but also several other countries. I think also the people here are used to major national existential crises (colonisation, war, poverty, famine, dictatorship, and financial emergencies) and are prepared to sacrifice and change their lifestyles, while especially in the US there are delusions of invincibility. Not to single out Americans though -- Canadians certainly can't imagine major changes to their way of life, so they're unprepared.

Not just testing but also the medical system is very well-run. I was in the hospital in January and February when the disease was spreading, and they set up quarantine protocols I think in late January. If you need to get tested, you know where to go or who to call, rather than just showing up at a hospital and contaminating everyone there.

It helps that everyone in the country is familiar with face mask etiquette, but I'm still not totally sure if wearing masks has a correlative or causative relationship with the spread. In the early months I suspected people who were taking every precaution would wear masks, and you would wear a mask to signal you were extra cautious, rather than being totally protected by the mask itself. I started wearing one so I wouldn't be singled out, and now I'm afraid not to have one.

I also think not wearing your shoes inside helps. I don't understand how Americans do it, but if they wear their shoes inside and then take them off and walk on the same floor in socks or bare feet, that seems pretty unsanitary.

Oh yeah, I should add that we get multiple texts a day from government offices updating us on new infections in our areas. We can see if anyone was infected in our area and go to a website that traces everywhere they visited so we can see if we're at risk.

Did you fact check all your insight and information with Fox News Steed? Haha ... Just Kidding. I read all your recent posts in the thread. Yup at my house we wear shoes in the house occasionally. I would imagine large cities in the USA will handle an outbreak much better, especially if it occurs in the not too distant future. Which it seems like Virus's are permeating all over easier and quicker these modern times... Perhaps related to global warming?

What really irritates me is how many people around where I live and work cough and don't even cover their mouth! Hmmm guys Why???? Kid you not I think many Americans are so f*cked mentally that they probably intentionally don't cover their mouth's when they cough because they want others to join them with their suffering. Afraid to get your hands dirty from your own germs? Yea right... Too much work lifting your arm to your head? Or you assume it's just allergies? Haha. Sort of similar to people not picking up their dog's shit within 15 feet even closer to the dog poop cans/with green easily visible bags.

Lately been a grounds keeper at a apartment complex. Ironically I am a temp and the guy I am covering for is sick at home with Covid-19. So yup wouldn't be out of the ordinary if I developed symptoms any day now/week . Didn't even need the money in order to survive, so probably should have not accepted the job.

There's all these digital road signs over our free ways here in Oregon and some at parks that say "Stay Home Save Lives" ... I am a grounds keeper walking around a complex all day 5 days a week and I am by no means a expert at washing my hands and preventing cross contamination partially due to fear of getting shit for spending five minutes every time I change gloves walking into the club house to wash my hands! What do you guys say? Keep the gig or quit? Or step up my sanitation game...

You're the second person who's said that of me lately, I prefer to deal with facts and verifiable information rather than the hearsay and conjecture and, to be honest, fear-mongering there is all too much of in the media right now. It doesn't do anyone any good!

Pope Francis is going to say mass to an empty basilica and will live-stream the service.

Just like Pope Francis, a lot of churches are doing the same.

Some pastors want to have actual services with a congregation.

Some politicians have tried to block these services, but the courts are ruling in favor of the churches.

Kentucky Governor ANdy Beshear has a plan:

Continuing to report from the front lines. The city is a ghost town every day after midnight, which I'm used to in small cities but feels weird here. On the bright side, fewer people means more freedom - saw some dudes riding their bikes across a bridge car path tonight, not giving a single fuck. Been out getting nice photos too. Pics to come later.

It's almost like its' own type of urbex category at this point. Especially with the streets of some Downtown areas so eerily empty

Meanwhile, they're setting cell phone towers alight in England.

If they're Huawei-equipped, I guess this makes sense?

Looks like we can all kiss the glorious Montreal summer goodbye for 2020.

With a little luck I'll still be able to take my mom out to see Nikki Yanofsky on September 24. That's her birthday (my mom's, not Nikki's).

Apparently Russia has been behind the disinformation campaign to discredit 5G in the West. Anything about 5G's health effects is probably not true.

Although anything about Huawei's 5G equipment having backdoors or whatever else you've heard is probably true.

Your dilemma is not unique.

The tiny island of Bermuda has over 200 people in quarantine.

There are no cruise ships running to Bermuda and no commercial flights to or from the island. There was one flight a week or so ago to get the remaining non-residents off the island.
