It gets really annoying in otherwise pristine locations. I know a certain power plant that is still regularly visited by workers, but otherwise was wide open. Several instagram explorers got in and left their tags in the control room and now it's seen a massive increase in security.

I think that tags in plain RCP concrete drains is fine but on buildings, particularly in near-pristine abandonments it's a problem, especially when it directly leads to an increase in security.

It’s incredibly annoying and really why leave a traceable record of your presence? Really it’s pretty much the human equivalent of dogs pissing on things when they go on a walk and then the next one comes along and pisses on top of it.

I don't do it, but I can understand the mindset. It's not about gaining followers. It's like... a trophy, or a boast. Like saying "I conquered this challenge and here's my flag atop it." It's also a way to meet other explorers, because if another explorer sees it they might reach out to you. It's a way to gain clout and make connections.

Not saying it's right, but that's the mentality.
