Something I'm starting to get really tired of...

This is something I'm starting to notice more and more often and honestly... it's personally really ticking me off.
I recently visited an abandoned plane, which I'll post photos of soon, and there scribbled all over the sides of the plane are tags by other "urbexers" who have written their instagram page account (or other social media platform accounts) and their personal names on the side plane. It's all written in black colored sharpie too and it's extremely noticeable and ruins certain parts of my exploration.

It's one thing to have graffiti, winch is often beautiful and adds to the atmosphere. but something else completely to ruin sections of an abandoned location just by littering it with your social media account names and messages.
I can easily do this too if I wanted. But I choose not to and that it breaks immersion for other genuine explorers.

Am I just overreacting here? Or is this an issue some of you guys have too? :/
I'm sorry if this seems like an angry rant. But it's something I wanted to get off my chest.

You are not alone, it's been a long time problem.

I just hate it, it's useless and they will always defend by saying "ho its so small and/or in a corner" and there was other before.

Thank you! I wish there was something I could do about it. But I guess I can only sit and spectate... for now

Best thing to do to fight against it. Is to not be apart of it. Wait to share shots of places, until the spot isn't cool anymore, or later. It, it never gets there because you keep it under wraps until later.

Not needed for every location. But the ones that are important to you.

This is discussed a lot here but I was just called out by somebody else in this thread for this very thing so it's been on my mind. And while I couldn't care less about what that individual thinks it did get me speaking to a friend of mine who was also a little annoyed. It's unpopular but I'll leave my initials small and out of the way so friends can know I've been somewhere. I also love graffiti and think it has a time and a place so I may be biased. If there is some sort of real damage or someone puts their name on the main feature of a room, that's annoying, sure. I also hate the instagram handle writing self promotion bullshit. At the end of the day you just have to get there early if its something that really bothers you.

Also, you have the same right to wipe that name of as the person does to write it in the first place. Dry erase marker run over sharpie makes the indelible ink wipe right off a smooth surface. That person may come back and throw a huge burner up with paint though, it depends how spiteful they are.

True, I'm definitely not going to participate in that stuff either way.

I'm okay with initials or even printing out names in a very small font. But anything above that, then I think it kills the atmosphere.
Hell, even stickers are fine since they're so easy to remove.

I had a buddy who taped himself wiping someone's name off the glass of one structure before. And while that might be too far, I think that's one way to sort of combat it. Assuming the person doesn't come back to check on his name haha

I see that as an issue. I've only done one explore so far, but nearly every square inch of the place was covered in graffiti and I still wouldnt consider leaving my handle anywhere. Hmmm. I might start bringing a scrap piece of paper in a zip lock bag with me and write "Guest Book" on it; leave it near a POE or a maybe a point of interest. Wouldnt expect people their for the sole purpose of tagging to use it, but maybe some more respectful people would.

some people in the PSW started to do that a few years back, I always took the time to erase their shit or rip their little stickers off.

this is a far better alternative and much more constructive, it'd be better to leave notes to each other this way.

Stickers would be pretty destructive to the environment too, wouldn't it?

You cant control the spray paint idiots any more than you can you keep them 'bandos a secret and all to yourself

Tired of it?

Don't go.

Its always gonna be like this.

Now we got everyone with an Instagrunt account jumping in to the urbex game. LOL

yeah what was once a unique hobby has become a free for all. In a sense it's good because law enforcement has become more understanding towards it, while at the same time they get irritated by too many calls for people taking pictures. so it helps with that. But then again that was always the main challenge part of URBEX.

Anyway I really cannot stand these paranormal assholes but like you said it comes with the territory and you just have to deal with it.

If you need corn to hunt deer... you're no hunter.
If the mild mannered rattler rattles you... best stay inside.

When first came down here 2X I was curious what the rattlers be like.
Cake walk.
Those damn whip snakes though will imitate a rattler and go straight at you
First time that happened I literally jumped, second time I wanted to catch it but got it me with the quickness and went in between my legs.
My shoes were together too.
TFF.

Coachwhips are cool. They can be very aggressive and will chase ya if you run, seen them chase dog before. Beautiful little critters colors range from black to red this is what they look like around here. Used to see them exploring all the time, they generally run from you.

Depends on how popular the spot is. If it’s well known, sounds like a fun way to connect with other explorers. Even if it’s a rare spot only people at that spot will see it.

It's all on the same level as graffiti in my opinion. I personally like looking at things the way it was left, not covered in "art" and writing.
