Here is one man's experience with COVID-19. In the absence of underlying conditions, which did not allow secondary pneumonia (among complications) to set-in, it was mostly fever control and hydration... as is the norm with most mild-to-moderate viral infections. And lots of screen time. Yay Internet?

(Maybe we should prepare a "Quarantine" forum?)

Full lung involvement is being used as a quick screening method to ID cases.
It presents a unique pattern of infection visible on an X-ray.
This is more virulent and contagious than any flu strains although it isn't related to the flu.
Mortality rates are higher than the flu and the stats out of China aren't reliable.
It's nasty stuff and that's why you're seeing panic.

Some of the stuff I have put together. It is so hard to even find hand sanitizer in anything other than tiny 6oz or 8oz containers around Raleigh NC USA. A couple store managers told me it was out even at the distributor. Family dollar and Dollar tree had some and I bought most of it for family and friends. Walmart said some should come on the next truck but it sells out quick.

Hand washing is absolutely key.

Then some stuff if i get sick is a nice idea. We don't know how the hospitals are going to do.

I am not to worried about food/water. I will be keeping a full tank of gas in the car.

B

edit: I don't have health insurance and work to live so taking time off work or going to the doctor is out of the question.

^ Having the virus on your fingers isn't a problem until you rub your eye or touch your nose or mouth.
Keep your hands away from your face. If you must rub your eyes or nose, use the back of your hand.

With a pathogen as contagious as this one you'll probably get it if you're around infected people no matter what you do with your hands...

Yea that’s what I am thinking unfortunately.

If you hold the handle, it’s easier to maintain the illusion of control.

A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.

What I find worrisome about the spread of this virus is that even though the lethality rate is estimated at around 2%, which is fairly low compared to some of the others (SARS was around 9% and Ebola is between roughly 50 and 90% depending on the strain), the proliferation of the disease seems much greater. If it does become a pandemic and say, 2 billion people were to become infected, that would result in 40 million deaths worldwide - if the 2% proves accurate. Just one more percentage point in the wrong direction would raise that number by another 20 million.

Healthy adults seem much less likely to die from this coronavirus, but if enough people get it, a lot of people will die.

*Incidentally, I read a news article tonight from The Telegraph that stated NHS officials are estimating that 1 in 10 Britons will end up hospitalized at some point due to CorVid-19. That is a huge number, but falls in line with the percentages given thus far.

The "1 in 10" figure really caught my attention.

Yea conservative media have this narrative where the virus was some kind of plot to destabilize trump/USA. Climate change is another favorite of theirs unfortunately.

I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy but fox is scary some times.

I had a guy at work telling me about how it was a weaponized virus and how the timing in relation to the election. I just listen, it’s not his fault.

I can confirm the air pollution levels have been lower in the region lately, and it's pretty obvious it's connected to the virus. This time last year it was so bad we thought we'd all die of air pollution. We did have an unusually warm winter this year, and I have seen the temperature rise to +18 this month, which is disturbing.

The headline on the Fox News article is poorly written, making it sound suspicious that both things are changing in tandem, and judging by the comments section it is framed to allow readers to reach various conspiracy theory conclusions.

People slam Fox for forwarding a NASA press release. WTF?
Blind with rage as usual...
Who else is covering this news? Not one major network...
Yay, Fox.

The NASA article is well written.
It's a observation not an abstract.
NO2 levels specifically index overall industrial activity.

This is spook kind of stuff... yet we can see it.
Cool.
The writing in the clouds isn't good.

Ridiculing a simple observation from NASA derived from raw data?
Not even an on topic retort and...
Even more off topic with an already off topic Main forum thread.
Bravo...

Lol, maybe this...
"Do you fear contracting the coronavirus whilst exploring?"

If you're going to Iran to splore better think twice.
Record numbers of coronavirus deaths are being reported.
True 3rd world countries will most likely fare worse than Iran.
More writing on the wall...

The Fox article isn't merely "forwarding" a press release. It repackages the information and makes a little less clear the relationship between the two factors. The Fox article never explicitly says "There is evidence that the change is at least partly related to the economic slowdown following the outbreak of coronavirus," which is the most important line in the NASA release. Fox seems to like the verb "coincide" for whatever reason, rather than spelling out that the coronavirus caused an economic slowdown, which resulted in decreased NO2 levels.

The people in the comments section certainly fit the stereotype of the uninformed American Fox News consumer. Anyway, it is never good when Fox News looks at this side of the world, considering the disdain they have for non-Americans.

Also, CNBC and the New York Times also covered this news, as did various other news outlets in countries that don't have quite as bad a disinformation problem.

^NYT? WP, etc? Let's see how the lawsuits pan out for their brand of nonpartisan reporting.
Used to be NPR was left wing...

Bottom line is the disruption to the Chinese economy appears to be epic in proportions.
Time will bare this out.
Top shelf investors already know.
Here's some more "fake" US news.
https://www.foxnew...ning-officials-say

The above story and pics of bio decontamination teams raises another important question.
How long can it survive outside the body?
https://www.google...urvive-on-surfaces

That it can survive 9 days or even longer on hard surfaces is more bad news.
Some of the coronaviruses that infect animals can survive for 29 days...

First... US death from the virus
https://www.google...-8d79-15d7a1456887

More fake news? Lol, Iran is now the poster child for the coronavirus and it's probably lethality.
China lied.

Hey what happened to that armadillo thread anyway? It had at least as much relevance to exploring as this "community question" thread LOL!
