I like them all a lot, but is it really the compositions that are excellent? I feel like the strong handle on lighting and colour is what makes these photos amazing.

The compositions are all good; with heavy points of interest centred or in one of the 3rds. Some have interesting repeated close up patterns. Really nice to look at. But I don't think they tell me how I'm supposed to feel about the place. Is it pretentious to say they don't "move" me?

I'm curious to understand why these compositions in particular jump out to so many.

Really cool photos.

I don't photograph places to evoke a mood. It's more of documentarian approach as a portrait of a room or something that interests me. These places to me are not creepy or spooky, they are beautiful buildings, filled with wondrous things, no matter their size.

If a viewer takes something out of them, it should be a unique experience, not one dictated to them by a story. At least that's how I feel about my photos.

Thank you for the compliments, I hope that sort of clarifies it from my end at least. I can't speak for others as to what draws them to the pictures.

You're photographing history and they are pretty amazing photos. Every picture tells it's own story.

That makes sense; I think I was caught up in my own ideas.

I guess, I'd say that documenting anything requires some sort of perspective, even if you're trying to be neutral and let the viewer interpret things. The simple, clean compositions do make me focus on these objects of industry. I think, if there is a mood, it is sort of a quiet and appreciative one because you tend to focus on one interesting thing at a time.

Thanks for helping me understand your approach.

Your guess is as good as mine. Something to do with power conversion I suppose.

Given it's inside the control room, I am going to guess it's the primary side of a potential transformer which drops the high voltage by a precise ratio to something that can be fed into the panel meter.

More likely a power tapp or feed off/to the bus bar... the answer is where it goes.
Potential xformers current draw isn't very large, a couple amps max.

I've never seen electrical bus inside a wooden frame yet. The horizontal thing is a bus bar. The thing that goes above is a disconnect/fuse as you mentioned. The ribbed bushing could just be a physical support, or a bushing for a PT kept in the cabinet down below.

What exactly is that in .11?

Like blackhawk said, it's a bus bar.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Busbar

By using solid slab(s) of copper instead of wire, you can make better connections. It's kind of an optimal conductor but it costs a lot more per foot than a cable. They're only used in places where current is highest.

Looks like an insulated support at left and a big-ass cable going up at right.

My god, this place is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
