These were some abandoned ammunition bases that I found while exploring a farm an hour from me. This place isn't too difficult to find and is actually full of these abandoned mines literally lined up in rows.
It was still cool since I was not even aware of these at all

Yeah, I was going inside half expecting everything to be tagged to pieces with graffiti. But no, it was one of the rarest places I've seen with hardly any graffiti. I have a feeling the city maintains this very closely and well enough.
The bad news though however is that I saw demos going on with some distant bunkers. But these were untouched.

This must have been an old base, or perhaps an armory. I have seen ammunition bunkers like those on almost every major base.

Cool find.

I think you're right. I asked some of the locals of around the area and they told me this place used to be a WW2 armory. That is really interesting. Never really knew I'd find whole section of nearly untouched WW2 armories. I need to look up the history of the city. Apparently the city is actually making efforts to restore any damaged bunkers and preserve them as a nice piece of historical reminder.

Thank you! Unfortunately it was a Canon DSLR that I borrowed from university. I had to return it after taking these pictures.
But this was a good way to try out DSLR for the first time haha

Cool find. Try doing some research and checking the surrounding area for other interesting things. It'd be odd for them to just be all alone.

That is a really nice find. I love accidentally finding stuff like this and then going back and looking up the history. For years, I've wanted to sneak into the old arsenal that's close to me; but between the government no trespassing signs and the rumors of buried UXO, I decided that I'd just look from Google Earth.

Side note: I remember having to run over the tops of those types of bunkers while I was in the Army (many years ago). Not something that I particularly miss.

It's amazing how many old abandoned bases there are in the US. Some have all but disappeared. I once found a curb with some asphalt in the woods in middle North Carolina. After some research, I determined the area had been part of a busy WWII US Army Air Force base.

Apparently, these bunkers are part of a forest preserve to help preserve these bunkers too and these bases can now be seen on trails you take around the forest preserve. But even still, you have to take the more unorthodox paths to get there. It's a bit tricky to find them.
I'm glad the city is taking care of them though. These things are such mysterious beauties.

I poked around in there about 20 years ago. What's keeping clean is its remote location.

There's another one about 2 hours to the West in Bureau County, but it's quite difficult to find.

Nice! I'll check it out. Bureau County is like 2 hours from me. But it's not too bad. A quick search on Google, and there seems to be quite a bit of abandoned places to explore like a school! Can't wait to explore it! Assuming nothing's been demolished yet
