St. Julian's Church

So despite receiving some warnings on here about Vermont prior to my move, I actually accomplished my first exploration in the new state with the blessing of some very friendly locals. I was in the area to check out two nearby churches, both closed due to the consolidation of the local parish. The first was under renovation and gutted, so I made my way over to this one. Despite the church being closed for at least a year, the parish hall across the street is still used weekly by the congregation, some of whom were standing outside smoking as I pulled up. Putting on my best nerdy photographer smile, I introduced myself and explained that I was doing a photo survey of the nearby disused churches, and asked if they could give me some more info. One girl went inside to fetch her grandma, who greeted me jokingly with a gruff "who's taking pictures of my church?" She explained the circumstances of the closing and the failed attempts to sell it, and said that I couldn't look inside because she didn't have her key, but I was more than welcome to look through the windows. This I did and, in doing so, found that the door was, in fact, open! After asking again to make sure no one minded, I spent a leisurely hour looking through the whole place. Although the stained glass has been removed for preservation, nearly everything else required for services was still present, as if waiting for its family across the street to return.

This is phenomenal. I particularly like the shot of all the stations lined up in 7. Not only is it well executed but thats a rare find in a deconsecrated church. Glad you were there to capture that.

Thanks, all! It's especially interesting that the abandoned places I've found so far up here have been completely free of vandalism or graffiti. Most of these have been abandoned house, which in Maryland were almost always empty and ruined. That doesn't seem to be the case here, and even those right by main roads show nothing but natural decay. So look forward to seeing more of those!
