I had a detailed history written about this location, but was concerned of giving too many details away and deleted it all before I hit the post button. Dick painting crapholes lurk among us, or at least said crapholes have access to YouTurd douchenozzles. Blame MyInstaTubeTweetFace for lack of details. Instead, you get interior only pics a vague description.

Built a long time ago. A period of 5 decades of neglect and abandonment saw collapse of the roof and entry of statue smashing, stained glass breaking, eternal rest disturbing, dick painting crapholes. It is amazing that it was never victim to a match wielding asshat. A couple of decades ago it was saved by a preservation group, and has since rec'd a new roof, a steel clad solid core door, plywood "windows", and has been scrubbed free of dicks.

Few people were ever interred here. The ones that were have had their smashed crypt caps replaced by the preservation group. However still most of the caps pictured seal empty crypts. Crypt caps with names on them were left out here as the names are searchable and Google bitch is a loose dirty whore.

I had legal access, and was greeted by a generator and a handful of bare bulbs strung about. Also pictured is a box fan that was doing not much more than circulating damp air. The fan made no sense as like I said, it has no electricity so the other 364 days of the year it remains damp with no climate control.

As always, I am an explorer - not a photographer. My experiences are recorded on a 12Mp camera phone. Perhaps some day I will take a photography class and get some real gear but it still remains low on my list of priorities.

This blocked in doorway was an access tunnel to bring in bodies to be interred. It would be literally impossible to bring a coffin down the stairs that I used. No evidence of the long gone tunnel could be found outside.

Less info is always better for a site if you care about it.

Hell yes it did!! Based on the lay of the land surrounding the Chapel, the tunnel would have had to have been at least 50ft long. Even if only 6ft of tunnel exists on the other side of that block, it kills me not to see it!! If I ever own a property with block as such, a sledge hammer would be swinging the very first day of ownership.....

I feel your urge.
There maybe a secondary entrance hidden in another crypt rather than just buried. Look for a pattern of ground depression. Google earth sometimes helps.
May be longer than stated too
My gut feeling there is something there worth seeing.
Concrete blocks crumble so easy... but I walk away before it gets to that point.
That's what patience and vandals are for

A hammer drill, masonry bit, and bore-scope would get you your answer quickly with minimal damage.

If there's a second crypt there that was sealed, it's possible that it may have been sealed because it was used as a permanent burial space. There's probably pretty good odds of disturbing the dead if that door is unsealed.

Of course, explorers under Paris manage to balance that moral quandary, and you'll never know for sure unless you try.

That will never happen, and certainly not by my doing. However you are indeed correct, and damn my moral compass

This was sealed when the "Friends of <redacted>" took control. There was indeed a tunnel. No one knows when the exterior portion was collapsed and/or filled, and the guy I talked to did not seem to know if the remaining tunnel was back filled prior to sealing. Since there is graves overhead, I would assume it was filled. But who knows?

These are beautiful shots, great job on this explore! It must have been pretty amazing before the taggers found it and started leaving their self portraits... Thanks for sharing! 😀

Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed it - it's a place I have had my eyes on since the 90's.

Depending where this is and how old it is, you might be able to find tunnel info on Sanborn fire maps. I've seen the occasional crypt tunnel on those.

It's a pain to use this interface, but they're located here: https://www.loc.go...tions/sanborn-maps

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

No info here on the crypt, chapel, or cemetery - might be too old - the land was consecrated over 150yrs ago. Agreed, the interface is crap. BUT - how the effing hell I never had the Library of GD effing Congress on my radar, I will never know. Thanks a ton for bringing a seemingly obvious resource to my attention! It is now bookmarked, and I am quite certain it will prove a valuable resource in the future. Seriously Freak- thanks!!

No problem! Library of Congress has some good stuff. Old blueprints, newspaper articles, photos, etc. Some other good collections include American Memory and HABS/HAER, but there's a lot more to dig through!

WTF? Is this the shoot that took Mr. Bitey out???
Or was it the return trip after curiosity got the better of him?

I'm just playing in the graveyard as usual trying to raise the dead...
