Originally built in the 1950s, the site functioned until a combination of factors forced its closure in the 2000s. The institution itself is particularly notable due to its academic acclaim, with several well-known papers and books about proper treatment of mental illness being published by medical professionals working for it.
When the site closed, a small but vocal group of local citizens spoke out against the closure, arguing that the site was still in use and still necessary for the benefit of the local community. Since the site closed, several development plans have been put forth, yet none have proceeded due to the large quantity of hazardous materials present on-site.
Today, the site is largely overgrown. Unfortunately, due to the presence of roaming security, I didn’t get many good shots of the outside.











While exploring one of the buildings believed to have no power, we stumbled on an elevator stuck between floors that still had power.

Oh hey! I was there! Stafford and I have both explored a fair bit on our own, but this site was our first time exploring together. I had personally explored this location a couple times, but it has a lasting novelty... Made better with a friend, of course. Not to mention its size!

Nice shots and write up. If this is where I think it is, I'm not gonna say but I'm 90% sure, I shot some exterior pics a few months back. I have the contact info for the current owner and am working on getting a proper tour. He let a group of explorers in last summer.

Well, as for the place that you referred to, it sounds like you have all the info you need. Best of luck to you on getting in touch for a tour.

As for this place in the post here, I really don’t think it’s my place to give that location away, as it’s not my discovery and I think the local explorers would prefer to keep it from getting trashed, not to assume that you’re that type. But I just don’t wanna add to the already increasing foot traffic. I only know where it is by being attentive and digging around here on UER. I’ve also read recently that the area residents are pissed off with how the property has been left. They are sick of the neglect and have been demanding action to remove numerous hazards from the site.
