New to UER figured I would start going through some of my pics and share some of my older ones. This here was a few years back. Abandoned mansion here local to my buddies cabin so I made two separate visits to it.

Welcome to the forum from way out west. It's an interesting location, that's for certain. It's almost like they tried too hard to build a unique structure and lost sight of it being a home. Just my opinion though.

About that mansion...

It was built in the early 1980s. The owner had some issues with gambling and torched it for the insurance money in mid-1990s. He went to prison for that.

People used to hang out there a lot until some kid fell to his death from the tower. The people in the area will call the police if they see a car parked near it. Best to park and walk from the "hunting area".

My last trip there was 2006 and there was a caretaker living on the site. It appears that is no long the case.

When I was there 3-4 years back you could see were someone had been living in the one end of the building but they were no longer there.

As far as a caretaker I drove a full size truck right in the access lane past the house out along the main road. The access lane is washed out not far in due to the moat washed out. Apparently the guy who built it embezzled money from his business according to research.

I know the last time I drove by the area the main access road in was chained off now. So I am to assume they are still watching it.

Not what I expected for a "mansion". I'd love to know more about its history.

Cool! I have went out to check this out when I lived in PA. I actually thought it was gone for some reason and never bothered.

An article dated Jul 2018 claims it is covered with motion detection and cameras. It also claimed 44 cited over the prior 10mo. Could all be BS. Could be true, but perhaps no longer. OP may have snapped his pics prior or had permission. If I lived in the area, I would steer clear until I had some sort of confirmation from OP or otherwise.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - problem NOT solved, problem AVOIDED - I am too old for avoidable tickets! Not like it matters in my case, it is 750mi away from me....

Mr. Bitey excellent information and thank you for protecting the location. It has had its share of vandals over the years.

As I had mentioned in my post I visited a few years back 3-4 years by my est. I drove right in at that time, but they had various signs up that it was patrolled and camera signs at the gate. As for if they have cameras or motion detection I wouldn't know and knowing I was there twice I doubt I will go back to push my luck.

It was a very cool explore and one of the earlier ones I went to so it always holds a place of importance to me.

Very unique site. I was thinking it was mislabeled as a mansion for a minute and that it should have been labeled “abandoned amusement park ride”
