A few months ago I took a little trip out to a West Virginia town like I do every year. There's an abandoned hotel restaurant and gas station right in the middle of town with a nice park behind it and a great parking lot. It's just as active as any public space. Every year I take a little look around to kill some time, but there have never been any entrances until this year. I found a little plaque in the gas station calling this a travel plaza, which was kind of a surprise to me comparing it to modern travel plazas.
Enjoy the pictures

1. Waiting for the parking lot to clear a bit so I could make my entrance.

4. The light from these windows made shooting very difficult.

5.

6. In the hardware section. While it's normally cool to find light tubes not smashed, this place had them sitting on a shelf for sale. I thought that was kinda funny.

7.

8.

9. The mold was terrible, especially back where the drinks were.

16. All of the alcohol was empty, but everything else was till there.

17. Beds still made,

18. soap still wrapped.

19. Beds less neat, but everything else in perfect shape. I sent this to a friend and he didn't even realize it was abandoned.

20. Moving on to the restaurant.

25. A nice view of the park right outside. Not even a fence lies in between.

There's a West Virginia?! (Sorry, old Simpson's joke)...these are some nice shots; looks like a fun explore with a decent amount of stuff to see. Those guest rooms are neat; there's a real time capsule feel to the place (and that first shot with the Dew bulb made me smile).
I've done a few motels, but unfortunately both were fire damaged and mostly gutted - or rotted- though one did have a bit of a claim to fame.
Anyway, nice job and thanks for sharing!

Enjoyed the pics! Reminds me of a few i got into here in Texas. Did you notice any dates on anything? The Pineapple Juice can looks quite rusted and old, but you never know it might be under a bad ceiling. I think the bottle of sandwich spread has curdled hahah! Like the guest room shots and the kitchen.

Thanks everyone!

The news papers were dated for summer of 2004, actually a few weeks away from when I visited. There were stacks of reservation cards from the hotel sitting in the gas station with people's info on them. Everything from their name to their credit card #. It would be interesting to find those people today.
