Have new charges leveled against them.
https://www.northj...ak-ins/1809921001/

The intruders boarded the 1,500-ton USS Ling in the Hackensack River, opened the underwater hatches and stole four bronze plaques honoring the more than 3,000 Navy officers who died on U.S. submarines during World War II, authorities said.

The vessel was flooded, police said. Several artifacts inside the submarine, including radio transmitters, uniforms and textiles, were lost due to water damage, said Gilbert De Laat, president of Submarine Memorial Association, which maintains the sub.

Police said the burglaries occurred during two visits, last July and August.

The Ling once served as the New Jersey Naval Museum’s centerpiece exhibit, but was closed in 2013 due to damage from Superstorm Sandy.

Jon Stevens and Laura Palmese of Connecticut; and Edward Johnson, Stacey Bouley and Robb Hemberger, whose home states were not immediately known, were arrested in connection with the alleged vandalism and burglary.

Fuck these worthless cunts to hell slowly in state prison... feel the wuv.

What the hell possesses someone to do such a thing?
Here's hoping they each get at least ten years.

What utter fuckwits. I hope they receive whatever the max penalty is plus a lifetime of embarrassment and shame. This isn't the same as vandalizing the local warehouse(which still makes you a fuckwit, for the record). This is desecration of history and is not only disrespectful to every American, but a slap in the face to every man and woman who served on her. You don't deserve to breath my air and are a complete waste of human space.

They probably won't. I can't speak for most of them but Stevens has done far, far more despicable things and people still make excuses for him and stay friends with him.

These are scrappers.
Fuck them.
Stealing war memorial plaques, pure scum.
Even though this boat had no WW2 kills and enter service after WW2, it had Vets that did see active service in the war.
There are few intact surviving diesel electrics from this era.

I went to that place for a friend's birthday party when I was about 10. That was a really cool place. I was so disappointed to hear that it was damaged in Sandy. I think that most of the guys who worked there were volunteers, but they really made it interesting.

At least the plaques were anonymously returned the following week.
Also I'm still trying to wrap my head around how they could have flooded the thing. And then on top of that, be stupid enough to go back a month later. Im not trying to back them up or anything but something just doesn't add up to me.

So Hemberger seems to be the person behind a big exploring youtube channel. I’m sure a lot of you have heard of it, it’s called ‘RnK All Day’. I’ve never been particularly fond of his content, and i’m sure many others aren’t either. This situation completely validated my mild hatred for the guy.

They left the hatches open. Im sure it wasn't their intention but something must have come up during the investigation to merit the charge. Those charges were just added recently.

Edit: it wasn't wake like I initially said, the hatches were opened during a weekend of intense rainfall and flooding.

It must have been the escape hatch way at the tail end of the sub. It looks like that part is really close to water level. Then with the heavy rains it got submerged. Assuming that its sitting on the river bottom and not floating.

These idiots didn't steal the plagues. A member removed them and other relics to safe guard them from morons like this group.
He later returned them when he heard they were thought to be stolen.
A small blessing... however these scumbunnies may have looted other items.

https://dailyvoice...-after-all/742549/

¤More details on the why of the charges and the hefty fine and jail time they face for willfully destroying WW2 military relics.

But the recent indictment alleges that the five “did conspire with each other to commit the crime of causing or risking widespread injury or damage” and “did purposely or knowingly unlawfully cause a flood.”
Both the conspiracy and flooding charges carry five- to 10-year state prison terms and fines of up to $150,000.

The Hackensack River is very tidal as well. So if they did in fact leave the escape hatch at the tale end open, a strong high tide could possibly be enough to flood it. The current in that river can be crazy. The sub is stuck on the bottom which is part of the problem why they are having trouble finding what to do with it.

Another thing, many may not realize how extremely disgusting and polluted that river is. I would never even touch that water let alone wade in it. There is debate going on here right now to declare the watershed a superfund site.
