Wright's Tunnel(also referred to as Summit Tunnel and Tunnel No. 3) is a demolished railroad which burrows its way through the Santa Cruz Mountains. The tunnel was named after a man who previously owned the adjacent property during the development of the railway. Wright's Tunnel was one of four main railroad tunnels on the Los Gatos to Santa Cruz line. The tunnel was opened in 1880 and blocked off permanently in 1942 by the US Army.

The construction of this site had a casualty count of 32 from gas explosions within the mountains and had further complications once the railway was up and running. It was designed to extract a fortune in redwood from the timber reserves in the San Lorenzo and Pescadero Basins and also aided in the transportation of fruits and other produce.

Wrights Station is now somewhat of a ghost town. The area used to thrive when the railway was running, however, the economy dissolved once the rail transportation stopped.

Before the demolition of the railroad station, in 1936 the San Jose Waterworks bought the land as part of their watershed. Since then, access to the North Entrance became a trespassing violation.

Overall, I would say this is a fairly fun and quick spot to visit. Althought it is a bit out of the way, the short hike(if you can call it that) to the mouth of the enterence was beautiful, and the tunnel is a pretty cool!
