The history of this hospital begins in the 1800’s. A lady built and ran an infirmary until her death in 1908, when the building was demolished. In 1915, an all female seminary was built where the infirmary used to be, and by 1923 it was a hospital. In 1925, they added a fourth floor. With the opening of a bridge in the area, people would come from neighboring states as it was nationally recognized as a great hospital. In 1941, the government took over a portion of the building to treat pearl harbor victims. But in the 70s, they were having issues with the lack of parking, small size of the building, and the cost of upkeep to the aging building. In 1983, they finished a new building, and closed this one. And now it has sat vacant for 36 years. For about 20 years, no one thought much of the building. but in 2006, a video was released and went viral by 2006 standards. Since then the building has been pretty famous, and in turn had been almost completely destroyed. I’ve never been in a place since that was so torn up. On a side note, that video was incredibly fake. I have no idea why it took off the way it did. But it was till a cool place. In recent years its been considered one of the most haunted places in the state, if you’re into that stuff. The hospital was recently sold, but i couldn't find what they plan to do with it. I’m pretty sure they plan on renovating it, but it’s going to take a lot of time and money. They're going to have to completely gut the place i think.
unfortunately there are no old pics of the inside, but here are a couple from the outside.
1. this is a picture from when it was just opened.
2. i imagine that this is not too far from when it opened. definitely from before 1925. the area around the hospital looks much the same other than the forth floor. they've added since.
