Belgrade Burned Warehouse < on 3/18/2019 5:38 PM > | Reply with Quote
This is the second post on a few abandoned places I got a chance to explore during a trip through Eastern Europe. This building is in Belgrade, Serbia, and I think it used to be a warehouse or some kind of storage building (there were a lot of singed bulk supplies like wristwatches, mannequins, etc. scattered on the floor) before it burned down.
Charred remnants of the 20th century.
Archaeologists of the recent past.
I think this tile says “C. LEPOGLAVA – 93”. I looked up what Lepoglava is, and apparently it’s a town in Croatia a bit north of Zagreb, where the tile must be from. I couldn't find out anything about how this building burned down- I'm curious if it's got something to do with the Yugoslav War, or if it happened by accident. Very cool place to explore!

Posted by shadeblanco Was this in the middle of the town? Your last image makes it look like there are flats right past the building.
It is! It was actually pretty weird, it's right in the middle of downtown, not far away were full-blown skyscrapers and the whole area looked pretty nice. It was semi-crowded outside on the street with businesspeople walking back and forth too, but the door to this place was wide open and nobody cared when we waltzed on in. Seems to be a few of these places in Belgrade which are in the city center and just happen to be left alone- pretty different than the US where most abandoned places seem to be locked down and at that sketchy industrial zone between the city and suburbs.

Cool place. It sucks that a building would get burnt down but it adds, or rather changes it's character and makes it unique. I love places that you can be seen walking into and not have to worry about.

Thanks! I really like it for that reason too, this is a structure I think is really beautiful in decay. A lot of these older European buildings seem like that, where you can see the plaster coming down to reveal stone and highlight little architectural details like the half-windows, it feels half between a modern building and a castle ruin.
