this farm house is outside of a small town in rural Ohio. i have no idea how long its been vacant for, but id imagine its been empty for at least 20 years. although there is some modern food trash lying around.

this observatory is pretty well known. id imagine most in my state know about it. it was built in 1919, and had an add on built in the 40's. in the 50's the light pollution had become too much and they built a new facility. the observatory was was used until 1983, when the collage it was a part of sold it. it was bought in 2005, when a man bought it and began restoration to turn it into a home. in 2007, his plans were ruined when he was sent to prison. its sat vacant since. it survived in good condition until a couple of years ago when vandals started destroying it.

heres an early pic

here's a pic form a couple of years ago

here it is in 2017.

What a great set! I hate that the vandals have found and destroyed the observatory. You really see the damage in the present and past pic in the set. Thank you for posting this!

thank you so much! it really hurts my heart to see these beautiful historical places torn to shreds like that. i'm glad that we have those old pictures so we can at least try to imagine what it looked like in its prime.

Cool set! I'd love to see some photos of the observatory before it got destroyed, but the vandalism is part of this hobby and it needs to be accepted. You can't change it so you might as well accept it, photographically at least. There's an observatory that was replaced for the same reason but the universities astronomy club still gives tours of it. I'm just waiting for a chance to sneak in and pretend it's abandoned for the pictures lol.

It's such a bummer that observatory is so trashed! I think it would have been the coolest thing when it was fresh abandoned.

Awesome set! Like a lot of others said, it's incredibly tragic that the observatory was trashed, what a beautiful building and tower. Thanks for including a picture of the astronomy room/museum when it was still in operation, that adds some really cool (if sad) context. Thanks for posting, I've always wanted to see the inside of an abandoned observatory!

I've never heard of an abandoned observatory. It would definitely be cool to do some astrophotography there if it's dark enough still. Great set though, thanks for sharing!

They say I gotta respect the system, but there ain't no respect in that system for me.
