this place definitely blew up.

My opinion: Its a better idea for all FM's to make their threads private in this day and age for this very reason. OP's photos are pulled from the thread it looks like to.

Better to sacrifice "comments and replies" rather than blow something super secret and remote up

Honestly I'm very disappointed with how this place blew up and I have definitely learned my lesson. Obviously it's just better to post private now but I'm also worried about decent newcomers to the site thinking it's dead.

It's just something newcomers and veterans alike have to keep in mind: a site can become active/under security at any time, even if it was chill for a long time. Hopefully newcomers will look through the whole thread to get updates on the site status.

Yea this place definitely blew up. Kind of sad considering a couple of years ago it was really chill and not many people new about it.
I wonder if the explosion has to do with this thread or if it was just mostly mouth to mouth. Probably a little bit of both.

The whole posting private thing is definitely a double edged sword. While on one hand posting private definitely mitigates the risk of locations getting out, it also potentially make the site appear dead.

There's been a lot of talk recently on other platforms about UER being dead. While that's not true, UER certainly has less activity than in the past.(I'm not helping since I haven't posted in forever my b). Also a lot of this is due to the good ol Insta scene.

If everything is posted in private, then the site will really appear dead to newcomers and no one new will join. That will actually lead to the site dying out eventually.

In this example though it definitely would be prudent looking back on it to have made this thread private in the beginning. Hopefully this might serve as an example so in the future this doesn't happen to other spots. But certainly not every single post/new thread should be made private, only the pristine spots.

Once the public at large knows about it, it's a goner.
The more exposure, the worse it's going to be.
If it has security that helps mitigate the destruction.
Otherwise if you value a site, limit information.
I'll post when it gone or secured when it's something special to me...
Otherwise if you post it and it gets plastered, you have only yourself to blame.
It's the nature of the beast...

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

double edged sword yes, totally agree....

*BUT*

private threads also give basic members a tremendous reason to earn FM status. Not only is the full database unlocked but so are the hundreds of private threads already posted and in the archives

and in the archives

Couldn't agree more here. Spent a couple hours earlier today looking through old threads from the 2000's and learned a ton about sites in my city thanks to the archives. Probably my favorite feature of being a FM.
