Many will recognize this famous Massachusetts State Hospital. It is currently being demolished at a very fast rate so I'd like to share some of my favorite photos from the location over the years. Unfortunately, its final days saw the campus over-run with kids and the place got in rough shape which caused me to stop visiting. So most of these photos are from a couple years ago. Enjoy!

Very strong set of photos, the colors are vibrant and eye catching yet not overboard with saturation. Pictures two and nine are the most striking to me.

Wow, I missed a lot on this campus even though I spent four or five hours here. It looked a lot worse than that last year and I imagine it looks even worse now.

Thank you everyone! This was a really fun place to photograph and offered much to see. It took me a good 3 or 4 trips of spending all day there to finally visit every building. It appears that many buildings are currently cleaned out and a few demolished already.

Did/does it have a steam plant?

Pity to see these well built structures demoed.
Had the slate roofs/flashing been maintained they easily could have lasted another century.
The exterior/interior layouts plus lack of adequate elevators many times doom them from being repurposed.

It did have a steam plant! Oddly enough, it was powered up and used by the state/town up until the very end. The end of the tunnel to it was always blocked off. My very last trip there is when it was finally shut off, and a hole finally appeared at the wall in the tunnel. Of course that was one trip I was just hanging out and didn't bring the camera along.

Fantastic set!

Really bummed I missed out on this one. Had to cancel plans to go with some friends at the last minute. Still regret that decision.

It's costly to replace a steam heated infrastructures. I've seen this happen before where the state had dual purpose steam plants.
They had steam plants down to a science by the 50's.

Great stuff, I'm sad that I never got to go here.
