A very good resource indeed. Back in my hometown, all I had to do was ask and the historical society let me dig through their records of historical sites slated for redevelopment.

Of course, all it takes to be labeled "historical" is a unique architectural feature, so there were quite a few files- out of perhaps two hundred buildings, I only found one that was abandoned, so it's not a good resource for finding abandonments- but it's excellent at providing more information on locations you already know exist.
