Earlier this year I made a post seeking to explore some locations outside of my usual sphere, and this place was the big payoff. Enormous industrial spaces like this are always my favorites, but this one in particular was on another level entirely. It's so massive that although a lot of it has been trashed and picked over by vandals and scrappers (some of whom we had the "pleasure" to meet), we were still able to find a few spaces that seemed untouched by all but time and the elements, all while still feeling like we left much of the complex unexplored.

Many thanks again to randomesque and General Zod for coming out with me and absolutely making my Christmas Eve! Cheers guys!

It took me until the turbine hall shots to realise where you were.

It's such a damn bloody shame that the turbines have been tagged up, bastards.

Sweet
See a vandal etc... dime them out.

If you think this station is something you should see the Chester Power Station.
It was the flag ship of these stations.
Art Deco to the max.
It was converted to offices in 2004 or so but much of it was preserved including a fully intact control room. It's stunning.

As tagged up as this place is now, it still has so many good shots and angles it in! Thanks for sharing your eye of the place.

Nice set, these industrial places make for cool explores...I rather like that bit of orange in the last shot (looks like a discarded safety vest). Thanks for sharing!

Likewise, and thank you kindly! I'm really glad we could make it happen, and I can't wait too see what you and Zod got out of it!

I found a great selection of Historic American Engineering Record shots on the Library of Congress site, and damn you're not wrong. It thought the architecture at this place was amazing but it looks downright plain compared to Chester. Any idea what they did with the turbine hall in renovating it?

And here's a few more shots I edited last night. I initially wasn't blown away by my photos of the turbine hall, but there were a few that I really liked after sitting down with them for a while:

The turbine hall was still under construction when I last saw it. Don't believe they preserved the open space though; offices.
They did preserve artifacts like small coal cars, valves, those huge incredibly double brass doors and much of the original hallways/doors.
In the main lobby even has rounded tiles in the corners where walls and/or floors meet. Lots of huge windows.
The controls room is fully intact, all the meters, those crazy red/black ball indicators, switches and wiring which art work in it's self.
It's an extreme example of industrial Art Deco.
Very ornate, spare no expense and one of a kind.
A huge, gorgeous building well worth a look at.

It's a hard area to shoot, I think at least. These look great though.

Very cool. Went a few days after you guys. I wish I had brought my waders because I wanted to go back down where the flooded area were.

My previous trip years ago, the ground was pretty dry and you could get pictures like this:
