So, I was just wondering what your guy's opinions were on spending the night at an abandoned place, more-so a clean one. Would you do it, consider it, or not? We've done it once in the first place we explored, well it was more of a really late night explore. So, would you sleep in a clean bando?

Why, and why not?

Why, as in there is no particular glory. Just added complication, discomfort and probably higher contribution to the decay of the place (i.e. contributing human waste).

Why not, as in sometimes it's the most rational way of exploring certain kinds of sites. Like those that must be accessed under the veil of darkness, shot during the day (so that added light isn't noticeable to security), and exited under darkness again.

I don't think it's a controversy. Do it if it floats your boat. Do it if it's necessary.

kids these days have no imagination

yes, sleep there- bring tents, a sheet, a projector and 15 of your closest friends. Hell, maybe even 4 blow-up boats or hockey skates

try not to sleep in asbestos or black mold

although, don't do a pizza party in a drain

Lol, nothing like snuggling up with a couple hundred hungry bed bugs for the night...

Yeah, we regularly stay at our exploration sites. Of course it's easier for us since we are usually in the middle of nowhere.

Just outside the mine with the weather turning bad.

This was inside a large warehouse that processed ore. It was nice when the rain started.

Rain turned to snow... Way too cold to camp outside in the snow and wind, so we headed inside.

Not quite the same as real urban camping, but we love it!!

As an avid fisherman, I would commonly camp out at abandoned places by the river
then wake up in the morning and go fishing again. Fun times.

And to think "Chad" isn't even my real name.

Huh, I always forget about that handy search button. And yeah, it does seem to depend on what kind of spot it is.

I've done it many times and always have a terrible fucking sleep every time.

The most comfortable (and cleanest) way to do it is to buy a nylon hammock and bring lots of rope and hope you can find somewhere to put it up. If not, they make a great ground sheet to keep your blankets off of a dirty floor.

The biggest pain in the ass is having to lug blankets and/or sleeping bags for comfort. In the summer or warmer months, the air is thick and gross and in the winter it is obviously really bloody cold!

But even with the discomfort and terrible sleep, it adds so much to the overall experience.

And yes - be very aware of the mold etc when deciding on a place to crash!

It much less of a pain in the ass than paying for a hotel somewhere and dealing with their rules and check out times. Very comfortable as long as you have some decent gear. A cheap tarp to keep your stuff clean, compact air mattress, and warm sleeping bag. Or just a hammock and light sleeping bag in the Summer. A compact stove and a meal is always nice.

here's another thread with some good pics and advice: https://www.uer.ca...=126588&currpage=2

I and maybe my friend would sleep at a bando or almost any type of abandoned place, As long as it is sturdy enough and isn’t really active. Mostly for the ability to fully explore and being able to be one with the darkness and also the fun of it.

Plus if I really feel unsafe I can just bring super dark gear and sleep in a corner. And If I don’t wake up the next day then... I’ll just haunt whoever tries to come do the same thing or I’ll really be a D and be that ghost that likes to slowly open doors at the end of a hallway. Me or my friend haven’t died yet, so I think we’re precautious enough.

I suppose under the right circumstances and necessities (not sure what those would be, precisely) I might do it, much more likely if I had some explorer friends with me, if nothing else it might make for a decent story. About the closest I've come is a couple predawn explores where I arrive earlier than expected, then find a spot to chill out (one of them I carefully walked around a bit taking pics) until the sun comes up. One was an allegedly 'watched' site near a busy road, so I just sat down in a dark and quiet spot. Maaaaaayyyy have dozed a minute or so.

I slept, more like dozed on and off- on the roof with 2 guys i was exploring with. We had pizza and chips and it was somewhat cooler (this was September i think). Was pretty uncomfortable but then again i didn't think I was going to stay.

Also when overnighting in a building, it is a good idea to rig up some sort of warning system in case someone comes up to the floor, room you are sleeping in.

You don't strike me as someone who likes to keep your stuff clean =P

Pretty sure I recognize the spot in your photos too! Neat little area there.

I've never stayed overnight just for the thrill of doing so. There was one time that I wanted to get into a place that had pretty good security so I went in at like 4 in the morning and kind of napped till the sun came up and I could had light to shoot.
