Hillside Car Graveyard

As has already been established on here many times, I love cars, especially classic cars. I love seeing them in roadgoing condition, I love documenting laid up and abandoned cars, and I love seeing cars smashed to bits at short oval race tracks when I'm not out exploring.

A couple of days before I left for my trip to Scotland I was mindlessly browsing Google Maps as you do when you are bored and I saw what my well-trained eye instantly knew to be a field of cars from the air. Down went the pin faster than I could blink and it was made a priority to check out on the trip.

It's always a crapshoot when you roll up on a location totally unprepared. However long story short, we rocked up, met the owner who turned out to be an amazing guy, extremely knowledgeable and happy to have two car guys wander around his property for as long as we wanted. I think he was just happy to have fellow classic car enthusiasts to talk to.

This is the most incredible car graveyard I have ever found in the UK. It's second overall only to the utterly unbelievable one me and a couple of my friends found and shot in the USA a couple of years ago. What made this place stand out was that only a very small amount of the cars were British. The vast majority were from continental European manufacturers - Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, Lada, VW, Simca, Skoda etc. There was some incredibly rare cars scattered amongst the more common oldies including a Simca estate that is one of only two in the UK, and two incredibly rare Fiat saloons that may as well be the only ones in the country also. He also had a large collection of VW Kombis including no fewer than four pickups and a panel van.

We spent hours there, and could have spent hours more were it not for the failing light. The owner is a true hoarder, he is still collecting vehicles and all sorts of other stuff on his property to this day.

Most of the cars are stored on a field on the side of a hill with many of them at crazy angles to shoot, you may be able to see evidence of this in the trees in the background.

Mookster for explorer of the year! I can't believe the quality and frequency of your explores man. I'd have to dump the woman, quit my job, and stop drinking just to get to a fraction of what you seem to hit up every week. Since none of that will ever happen, I will continue to enjoy your posts. Thanks for sharing, and stay safe out there!

Give abandonment a reason for its sacrificial reclamation to nature. Love it. Remember it. Take a picture. Share it. Leave the decay to nature.

Love the bright blue of 5, and the older vehicles towards the end.

Great stuff, and great find!

Ha no problem...I try and get out as much as I can, this was a part of a five day trip up to Scotland I did so I managed to see a great bundle of sites all at the same time. This was the undisputed highlight though.

A great set, so many cars you would be very lucky to see outside of a show, & such a wide spread of age.

Was it a hoard someone has let run out of control?
